Get To Know: Lossless Music

The brainchild of Soul Intent, Lossless Music began life as many such artist-run labels do – as an outlet for Alex’s own productions. That changed in a big way from 2016 onwards, as Lossless began to welcome other artists to the roster both on the main imprint and two other sub-labels – Exkursions, for more leftfield D&B, and Dope Plates for old-school jungle and rave-tinged outings.

Whether it’s his own work or that of other producers, the label trifecta has gone from strength to strength and shows no sign of stopping. Read on for five of our favourites from the Lossless vaults…

Soul Intent – Replicant EP [LOSSDIG001]

A rare non-vinyl release from Lossless, this one sees Soul Intent in control and going deep; blade-runner inspired synths wash over ReplicantDon’t Leave channels the spirit of late 90s intelligent jungle and La Meduza’s distinctive vocals drive the utterly hypnotic What I Wouldn’t Do.

The Grand Escape EP [EXKUR003]

Elementz of Noize & Infinite Leap deliver a truly beautiful piece of music in the form of The Grand Escape, fusing post-rock with drum & bass in absolutely epic fashion. Soul Intent’s The Fire is no slouch either, delving into Bonobo-esque downtempo territory. Both artists round the release off with a moody D&B number a-piece.

Bad Boy EP [DOPE002]

Soul Intent’s Bad Boy and Acid Lab’s Ancestors both deliver jungle-y goodness for this one, but the vocal stylings of Ms Tempz utterly steal the show on 2 Bad. That flow is fire!

2000 AD / Escapism / Stength [DOPE005]

Drumfunk fans will be all over this one; dangerous break chopping from Sicknote, Scape and Mark Kloud.

Versus Volume One [LOSS006]

The very start of Lossless’s journey into multi-artist territory, and still an exceptional release, SPKTRM leads with depth and melancholy, while Acid Lab, Chromatic and Soul Intent deliver the dancefloor rumblers. Sick!

Five of the best from the Lossless catalogues. Be sure to hit up Soundcloud or Bandcamp to check the label family has to offer – trust us, there’s loads more!
