Top Tracks of 2014

Following our run down of our favourite albums of the year, we felt it was only right to put the spotlight on our top tracks. These are the ten tunes that haven’t left our record box since their release…

Dub Phizix – Bounce [SenkaSonik]

Buffalo Charge may have garnered far more attention, but it’s the energetic (and less divisive) Bounce that’s been rocking the Dojo stereo most frequently. The combo of cheeky vocal sample, super tight percussion and scuzzy low end make this an absolute dancefloor killer.

Fracture – Loving Touch [Exit Records]

The juke/jungle infused arm of D&B production has been responsible for some of the most exciting tracks of the year, and Fracture has been leading that charge to great effect. The Chicago-House infused Loving Touch is without a doubt one of 2014’s most memorable tracks, with a groove so infectious that I challenge anyone not to be drawn in by its charms.

LSB – Leave [Soul:R]

When it comes to lush liquid rollers, this has been drawn for time and again…up there with BCee’s Captured In Time and the best of the Calibre back catalogue, this is smooth, blissful and elegant. Those breaks…absolute vibes.

Noisia – Running Blind [Vision]

When it comes to precise, vicious neurofunk, few can touch the Dutch legends. From one end of the scene to another this one has been doing the damage…inspired by Bad Company and brought bang up to date for the new generation, this is undeniably one of the best tunes Noisia have written in years. Screwfaces at the ready!

SCAR – Call To Arms [Dispatch Recordings]

2014 has been quite a year for SCAR and for all the amazing tunes that have come since (including the VIP), Call To Arms is the one we’ve gone back to the most. Grimey, militant and rolling, and a perfect statement of intent. We’re expecting big things from them next year!

Blu Mar Ten – Half The Sky (Kimyan Law Remix) [Blu Mar Ten Music]

Our first glimpse of the young Kimyan Law’s work stood out from an impressive selection of remixes and hinted at the possibilities more than realised in his debut album released later in the year. Effortlessly musical, beautifully melancholic; a truly impressive re-imagining.

Sam Binga & Redders – Lef Dem [Critical]

A great track from the fantastic Underground Sonics LP, Sam Binga’s tropical jungle slouch-core provides the perfect backdrop for Redders’ cheeky patois. Mashup, mashup, mashup!

Phace & Misanthrop – Sex Sells [Neosignal]

German engineering at it’s finest; Phace & Misanthrop’s cheeky, scuzzed out banger has proved a fun filled dancefloor weapon up there with the best of the Neosignal back catalogue.

Chromatic – Found You [Utopia Music]

It’s been a great year for Utopia with many great beats from the core family seeing release, but this one from newcomers Chromatic has proved a firm favourite. Detailed, warm, rolling liquid at its best.

Klute – My Black & White (Calibre Remix) [Commercial Suicide]

It wouldn’t be a yearly round up without something from the maestro. Calibre’s “less is more” approach has never disappointed, and his refix of Klute’s already sublime My Black & White is blissful in its simplicity. Deep, soulful, and hypnotic.
