Premiere: Monika – Himalaya (Akuratyde Remix)

Monika returns to Soulvent this month with another top single and he’s recruited LA’s Akuratyde for a remix. As you’d expect based on the producer’s previous work for Blu Mar Ten Music, this is a detailed, shimmering rework full of lush synth work and unusual production; imbued with all the emotion of the best liquid tunes but also an experimental streak and unusual percussion. Beautiful! Look for this dropping Friday 7th September at all the usual outlets.

RQ – Season of the Emergence EP [Blu Mar Ten Music]

A new release on Blu Mar Ten Music is pretty much always a cause for celebration, and their latest material from Kiwi producer RQ is no different, though it’s certainly a step away from the label’s usual fare.

Drawing influence from the likes of Photek, Source Direct and Blocks and Escher, RQ’s latest work (ahead of an album due on the label at some point in the future) is tense and ominous. Three of the four tracks are powered by a backbone of intricate percussion, with an array of finely processed breaks skittering in and out of the mixes. Building on top of the militant drum section, there are hints of psychedelia, touches of jazz, and a flirtation with melody that feels faintly threatening. Uplifting liquid this is most certainly not.

We could waffle on about the depth and emotional resonance of the tracks on show here but it feels complex and elusive enough that we’ll never do it justice, so just wrap your ears around the clips below instead. The EP is out now at the Blu Mar Ten Store.

Remembering Spirit

Once again the scene has lost a great talent far too early. As you’ve probably already heard by now, Duncan “Spirit” Busto passed away on August 26th following a cardiac arrest earlier that month.  We’re big fans of Spirit here at Dojo HQ, so in no particular order we’ve compiled a list of our favourite tracks from his back catalogue. Rest in peace mate…your music will live on.

DNB Dojo Mix Series 73: B1tyze

Deeper beats for you all this weekend as B1tyze deliver the latest instalment of our exclusive mix series! Formed of US button pusher B1t Crunch3r and French studio duo Kantyze, B1tyze have been crafting some really unusual leftfield rhythms over the past year with releases for the likes of Onset Audio, Free Love Digi, Keep Deep & Future Follower Records.

Due to geographical separation we couldn’t get all three behind the Dojo decks but rest assured that Jason B1t Crunch3r has delivered a top notch mix representing the sound the trio are pushing right now. Moving through deep halftime, hybrid jungle and full roll tech and featuring material from GREAZUS, Mauoq, Quadrant & Iris and of course a host of their own beats, this one is a proper journey through the 170 sound. Sick!

As always you can check out the mix via Soundcloud below or head to Youtube or iTunes to stream. You can also grab a download from Google Drive.

Dojo favourites Invadhertz are back in the premiere spotlight today with a track taken from their forthcoming EP on Peng Dominion. Teaming up with Kentro for this one, Stay Low opens up as a low-swung, swaggering slice of halftime, while the second half switches the track up into full roll tech D&B while retaining that hip-hop sensibility. Serious vibes. Look for this at all good stores from Sep 7th…
