Teddy Killerz – Teddynator / Endlessly [RAM Records]

Nightlife EP 2 ARTWORK.indd

When it comes to dangerous dancefloor destruction, it doesn’t get much more raucous than Teddy Killerz. Their debut single for RAM follows on from a slew of impressive releases for Bad Taste, Subtitles, Eatbrain and RAM sister imprint ProgRAM and shows them honing their sound to vicious neurofunk perfection.

Teddynator packs the bigger punch, landing with a huge drop that’s bound to inspire more than a few rewinds. The drums really shine here, punctuating the bass riff with precision and heft. Endlessly dials back the aggression a notch or two to focus on more of a headbanging groove, with hard metallic snares punching through the mix of growling bass textures. Check out the clips below and grab this one on vinyl and digital from the RAM store right now!

L 33 – Scream EP [Eatbrain]

Following on from big releases last year for Addictive Behaviour and ProgRAM, Bulgarian producer L 33 drops his latest work for Jade’s Eatbrain imprint. As we’ve come to expect from Eatbrain the release is packed full of energetic dancefloor-focused beats, though it stops short of the tearout mayhem we’ve seen from the likes of Kung in the past.

The tracks on show have much of the precision and rapidity that makes Phace’s work so compelling, though that’s not to say the tunes feel copycatish; a solid homage perhaps. All four tracks should do the damage on the dancefloor with the punchy drums and filtered mids of Digital Sound proving the Dojo favourite. Check out the clips below and look for this dropping at Beatport from March 23rd, with general release to follow from April 6th.

Yung E – Cosmic Dust / Mindset [Nurtured Beatz]

The latest from Nurtured Beatz sees Yung E making his debut for the label, with the tone remaining dark and techy. Cosmic Dust leads the charge with a sci-fi imbued roller that bears a heavy influence from 2005-era Black Sun Empire Recordings. It’s great to hear this sound again, with less focus on tearout neuro bass and more focus on a funky edge through rapid melody and crisp breakwork.

Mindset hits the ground with a more modern sound, swapping the rolling breaks for a stepper’s beat and a grimier, more minimal aesthetic. Last but not least, bandcamp exclusive track Doppler keeps the gully tone but flips the beats to a distinctly more experimental riddim. A fine selection from a producer we hope to hear more from in the future! Check out the clips below and head to Bandcamp to pre-order this now. The release drops there exclusively on Mar 23rd with full release following from Mar 30th.

Minor Rain – Totem Tube [Renegade Hardware]

Minor Rain touches down on Renegade Hardware once again with his solo debut, cementing his place amongst the fresh new faces signed to the legendary label over the last year. The EP features some cracking tracks, combining the heft and aggression of neurofunk with some unusual rhythmic play.

Totem Tube skitters along merrily with rapid fire percussive syncopations punctuating the backdrop of meaty bass and warm distortion. Deformation switches things up, opting for a more traditional D&B break for a by the numbers slice of high octane neurofunk. Last but by no means least Resistor heads back to unusual territory, blending elements of glitch and IDM into a bizarre, robotic tapestry of sound.

Hardware on point as usual! Watch out for the EP dropping at all good stores from March 23rd, and hit up the RH store for pre-order now.

Rune & Kaiza – The Rowdy EP [Transmission Audio]

Rune & Kaiza continue their ascent through the neurofunk underground with a chunky new EP for Leeds-based Transmission Audio featuring three appropriately energetic new cuts.

Rowdy and Sickstrip both provide tasty slabs of dancefloor worth tech-funk business but the suspense-ful intro and savage bassline of You And Me make the EP’s third track the easy Dojo favourite. Check out the clips below and look for this from March 20th at all good digital outlets.

Telekinesis – Fight Club [Blackout Music]

Telekinesis return to BSE’s Blackout imprint with five tracks of pure dancefloor danger! Coppa returns for the titular Fight Club which treads the same territory as Dojo favourite Pocket Full of Drops to great effect, with Bias and Jab proving more than effective neuro weapons to boot. Big, bad and not even a little bit subtle, this is peak time floor slaying D&B at it’s best; check out the clips below and grab the EP from Beatport right now.

Paul SG – Goggles & Gauges EP [Ambra Recordings]

Paul SG brings two fresh new liquid rollers to the table on the latest release for Ambra Recordings. The oddly titled Goggles and Gauges provides a playful but mellow composition, bringing together bouncy sub, jazzy licks and a tasty little drum line to great effect.

Caragua goes for a more “classic” style of liquid breakbeat, but plays around with bass guitar, flute and other unusual samples to keep the tune fresh. Check out the clips below and grab this one from your favourite digital store now!

Phace – Shape The Random [Neosignal]

Following on from last month’s sampler release, Phace’s brand new LP Shape The Random is upon us! Featuring 14 new tracks from the German neurofunk mastermind, the album stays true to the signature Phace sound but still manages to throw in a few surprises.

Empty Talk yields the first of those, achieving the same kind of high energy that his tracks are known for via a relentless staccato rhythm. Emphasis here lies in the sub and highs, mostly eschewing the aggressive midrange that has become somewhat predictable across the neurofunk style. The album’s single collab provides another surprise; with Mefjus in the studio one might have expected a tearout banger, but The Mothership proves to be a creepy, suspense laden exercise in relative minimalism, packing a punch but exploring unusual percussion and FX over sheer aggression.

There’s still plenty of space for the precision, high impact neurofunk Phace has become well known for, as evidenced by the likes of Fraktal TotalBite The Edge and the titular Shape The Random to name but a few. Exit Plan rounds the album off nicely with a another punchy, groove-laden and faintly robotic track. Phace remains at the top of his game and the cutting edge of the scene! Check out the clips below and pick up the album from the Neosignal bandcamp now!

Soul:Motion/Modu – Remixes [Inform Records]

The latest release for Inform Records sees Tokalosh and Soul:Motion on remix duties, reworking two tracks from the previous Summer Selection EP Vol. 2It’s tough to pick between the two tracks, both proving worthy deep liquid rollers, but Soul:Motion’s remix of Why We Make Mistakes narrowly edges it out as the Dojo favourite; effortless vibes. Check out the clips below and grab this one from your favourite digital store now!
