Submorphics – Long Been Gone / Rosewood [SGN:Ltd]

Shogun’s SGN:Ltd sister imprint return for their 41st release with two crisp liquid rollers from San Francisco’s Submorphics. Both tracks feature soft, rolling breaks and cheerful, melodic elements which achieve a summery warmth without descending into cheesy hands in the air territory. Fans of Random Movements, Makoto and DJ Marky should definitely give this one a look.

Check out the clips below and watch out for the release dropping at digital stores from August 31st, with vinyl to follow on September 15th.

Impak – The Hum EP [NeurofunkGrid]

What better way to kick off your Sunday than with a free download from NeurofunkGrid? Impak returns to the label for his second NFG release with two new cuts that are sure to be working dancefloors over the next few months. The Hum hits down with a tight, rolling groove and a catchy lead melody; while there’s weighty sub to the mix this is definitely a masterpiece of clean engineering.

Over on the flip Medula aims for scuzzier territory; atmospheric pads and piano on the intro give way to an impressive array of warping mid-range sounds that fans of Aeph and other purveyors of the futuristic neurofunk sound will definitely enjoy. A half-time breakdown in the second half gives the tune variety, and the sound design alone is worth a listen.

As usual you can grab the EP from the NeurofunkGrid Facebook page where you can also find all the label’s previous releases. Check out the clips below and grab it now!

Hyroglifics – Terra [Dispatch LTD]

Fresh from his futuristic bass excursions for Critical’s new Binary imprint, Hyroglifics touches down on Dispatch as part of the latest release in their LTD series. Terra is all about the bass textures, with ominous pads and a solid techstep backbeat providing the framework for a hefty bass growl, powering the tune along with tons of sizzle.

Tize sees Hyroglifics teaming up with Kolectiv for another slice of dark, atmospheric tech business; this time the emphasis is definitely more on the beats with the tune rolling along to a fearsome kick/snare riddim punctuated by weighty sub and all manner of additional bassline stabs.

Last but by no means least, The Fear rounds off the release with another deep dark stepper. This time it’s a huge team at the controls as Kolectiv, Dexta, Maouq and Kyrist all get in on the act. Angular rhythms and more creepy pads are the order of the day here; one for the heads as much as the dancefloor, but weighty nonetheless. Check out the clips below and head over to the Dispatch Store where you can grab this now prior to full release on Monday.

Betafuture – Void EP [Free Download]

The latest freebie to grace the Dojo inbox comes from Spanish duo Betafuture. Recently relocated to Bulgaria, the pair have just released their latest work in the form of the Void EP, featuring four tracks of crisp, atmospheric liquid D&B. Morning Sun brings a cheerful vibe with rolling breaks and soft, melodic synths. Breathless takes the energy down a little, focussing on bass texture while retaining atmospheric elements.

Sonder meanwhile brings in natural bass guitar and distinctive high frequency synths over another crisp set of breakbeats. Finally Distance drops the tempo for a more chilled out, melancholy slice of piano-led electronica. Check out the clips below, buy the release on iTunes, or just grab it for free here.

Quentin Hiatus – Conspirators EP [Free Love Digi]

Quentin Hiatus returns to Free Love Digi with a fresh new EP of deeper beats. Nyctophilia sees Kryptomedic taking the mic with a brooding flow which is more spoken word than traditional rap, set to a backdrop of skittering hi-hats and dark ambience. New Spirit switches things up, with lush synths on the intro dropping into an energetic half-time beat interspersed with tons of bass texture.

Hear Me goes in deeper once again, sticking to the half-time rhythm but opting for sparser beats punctuated with spookily pitched vocals and warm sub. Finally Don’t Touch That closes the EP out with the heaviest hitting riddim of the four tracks; booming kicks and snares and tons of percussive detail provide the backbone of the tune while synth swells and vocals ice the beat-laden cake.

Fans of the deeper and more experimental side of 170BPM should, as ever, be all over this! Check out the clips below and watch for the release dropping at all good digital stores from August 18th.

As a thank you for all the support he’s received lately, the ever busy Quentin is also giving away a free track in the form of Save The Planet, a tribal drum workout with beautiful, soft pads that give the tune a muted euphoria. Stream below and grab it from Soundcloud here.

DLR – Your Mind EP [Metalheadz]

New material from DLR has consistently proved excellent since his split with production partner Octane (who sadly has been pretty quiet by comparison), and his latest EP for Metalheadz is no exception. While retaining plenty of dancefloor heft on the tracks, the overall vibe seems atmospheric, and even contemplative; appropriate given the title of the release.

The title track sees DLR joining forces with Mako for a skittering drumfunk extravaganza; soft pads and a plethora of percussive elements give the tune most of it’s character, but there’s some tasty bass pressure for good measure too. 10 Steps sounds more like a “conventional” DLR track by comparison, with a rolling beat and slightly more dancefloor sensibilities. An ominous and slightly hypnotic melody stalks throughout the tune, bringing to mind a slightly altered consciousness.

Sense Of Wanting continues this trend with another dancefloor friendly slice of techy business, impeccably constructed as ever. Seek Knowledge meanwhile sees Mako back on board and Rider Shafique on vocal duties for a track that sounds like the spiritual successor to the excellent Setup The Set from Octane & DLR’s Method in the Madness LP. Lastly Outbound rounds off the EP with a halfstep beat plodding along in a dubby fashion amidst creepy pads, jazzy FX and a plethora of swirling, groaning bass.

As we’ve come to expect from the Metalheadz new school this is another essential purchase – grab it now from your favourite outlet on vinyl or digital.

Hybris – Garbage Truck [Invisible Recordings]

The build up for Hybris forthcoming LP for Invisible Recordings continues with Garbage Truck, the second single from the album following last month’s Timeloop. The lead track is an angular, clattering drum workout with beats dropping like bombs from every angle and robotic bass squelching in and out of the mix. Night Boss provides something a bit more rolling, and brings to mind the excellent early singles from Phace & Misanthrop’s Neosignal catalogue.

Perhaps no surprise then that the release is closed out with a remix from none other than Misanthrop! The German neuro producer makes Garbage Truck his own, amping the tension on the intro and replacing the madcap breaks with a rolling beat driven along by techno style bass stabs. Check out the clips below and look out for the single dropping from Monday August 11th on Beatport, with general release to follow from August 25th.

DJ Hybrid – Falling / Don’t Stop [E-Motion Records]

E-Motion return for their 30th release with a pair of infectious rollers from UK Jungle/D&B producer and Dread Recordings/36 Hertz artist DJ Hybrid. Falling aims for deep territory, with soft pads, a rolling break and catchy vocal hooks used to great effect. Over on the flip Don’t Stop aims for the dancefloor with heavier beats, dark bass and an infectious stabbing melody. Tasty! Check out the clips below and grab this from Monday August 11th.

Task Horizon – Ocean Of Sound / Dharmakaya Light [Evolution Chamber]

Task Horizon drop not one but two releases this week on their Evolution Chamber label. By far the most interesting is the Ocean of Sound single. The titular A side features the soft ethereal vocals of Ingrid Lukas, and channels influences from melodic drum & bass together with IDM style drum glitches that could be straight from Aphex Twin’s Richard D. James Album. The effect is mesmerizing, and makes me wish they’d apply themselves to this more melodic style more often.

Dharmakaya Light on the flip doesn’t disappoint either, bringing the same soft synths and warm musicality to the table with an infectious set of melodic chords and twinkling arpeggios. The drum pattern is a bit more club friendly on this one, with a rolling break characterised by reverb-drenched clap samples and rapid hi-hats.  Watch out for these dropping at all good digital outlets from August 11th.
