Back To 92 EP [36 Hertz]

36HTZ037-ART

36 Hertz take us back to the old school once again with the appropriately titled Back To 92 EP. Featuring four top notch 90s style breakbeat hardcore cuts from DJ Vapour, SR & Digbee, ESP and Indigo Virus, this one does exactly what it says on the tin; amen cutups, hefty sub bass and rave stabs abound.

Grab your hat and whistle and check out the mini mix below! This one drops on Juno and the 36 Hertz website from Feb 3rd.

Frustrate – Chaos Elevator EP [Chaos Audio]

Up and coming producer Frustrate unleashes his debut EP for Chaos Audio, showcasing range and versatility for someone comparitively new to the game. Alongside D&B rollers like the titular Chaos Elevator and the deep and dubby Digital, we’re also treated to Breakbeat and Dubstep beats before Endloop brings things to a close with some nice techy business.

Check out the EP below and grab yourself a copy now from your favourite digital store, out now.

Consequence – Etcht EP001 [Etcht]

Consequence has been fairly quiet lately but it seems he’s been busy in the studio cooking up leftfield beats for his new label Etcht. His work on this release fuses elements of breakbeat, acid, IDM, glitch, jungle and ambient to create a sound that is remeniscent of Aphex Twin or Bop, with more than a hint of dBridge and autonomic thrown in for good measure.

Across the EP the sounds of warm analogue synths combine with distorted percussion and strange, syncopated rhythms, all layed over smooth, ambient pad-work. The hypnotic melody of Ressed and the classic breakbeat vibes of Lyon are particular highlights, but ultimately the whole record is outstanding. Watch out for the release dropping on vinyl from 12th August.

Dawn Day Night EP [Astrophonica]

So just who is the mysterious Dawn Day Night? Following his initial appearance on Fracture’s Get Busy the mysterious masked (and possibly undead) artist has thrown down at Sun & Bass festival, leaked a rather bizarre rider to Resident Advisor, and is now preparing to release his debut EP on Fracture & Neptune’s Astrophonica label. Given the close ties to Fracture speculation abounds that the two are in fact one and the same man…thusfar we have no confirmation, though the scenario seems to bear more than a passing resemblance to the recent Phillip D. Kick project (though with more facepaint).

The identity of the masked man aside, the EP is an intriguing fusion of ghettotech, jungle, breaks, trap and juke, with super precise syncopated percussion and tight sub lines accompanying some choice samples (my favourite being the cry of “Big Booty Girlllllllls”). Check out the previews, and look out for the EP on vinyl and digital, out tomorrow at all good stores.
