Xsetra – Tectorum / Zub Zero [Transmission Audio]

Leeds based Transmission Audio return with their fifth release and keep the dark, techy vibes rolling with two new beats from Xsetra. Tectorum sets the mood nicely but for me it’s all about the eclectic percussion and squelchy basslines of Zub Zero. Atmosphere and heft in equal measure! Check out the beats below and grab this one from all good digital outlets now.

Rawtekk – Sprouted & Reformed [Med School]

Following on from the release of Rawtekk’s Sprouted and Formed LP on Med School recently comes a remix package featuring some heavy hitting reworks.

Phace delivers a typically robotic and monstrous rework of Photone Recruits and Mefjus turns in a nicely textured new mix of No More Vaccine, but for me it’s all about Billain’s epic take on Amber’s Love Was Like a Marble. The suspense on the intro is masterfully crafted on a creepy intro which gives way to a high octane build-up and then a drop that only Billain could have crafted. Evil business!

Rawtekk himself also gets in on the act, delivering both a rolling dancefloor edit and a lush, ambient rework of Snowflakes. Check out the previews below and watch out for the release dropping from March 10th.

Nickbee – Empty Your Mind LP [Dispatch Ltd]

Nickbee is a producer we’ve been keeping a close eye on for the past couple of years here at the Dojo and 2013 in particular has seen him cementing his position in the scene with tunes on Noisia’s Invisible imprint, a single on Bad Taste and a huge EP for Jade’s Eatbrain label. It seems somewhat appropriate that his debut album sees him return to Dispatch Ltd, the label that put out one of his first releases in 2011.

The Ukrainian producer has taken full advantage of the scope of a full length release to explore other tempos, with interesting takes on Dubstep (Inspiration), Deep House (Kloe) and Garage (Subterra collaboration Black & White) appearing alongside the usual tough D&B rhythms. There’s even some downtempo on Moonlight, a track absolutely drenched in atmosphere and space, and album closer One More Breath.

The D&B doesn’t disappoint either, with highlights coming of the titular Empty Your Mind and Updown, both proving to be well produced slices of rolling techstep. The only criticism I can really level at the album is that the transition between tracks sometimes jars a little; some interludes or a mixed version of the album would have been a nice touch, but this is a minor complaint in the scheme of things.

LM1 & Rogue State – Floorplay EP [Offworld]

Offworld head honcho LM1 and Translation boss Rogue State have teamed up for the latest EP on the former’s Edinburgh based label and the result is three finely crafted tracks of dancefloor friendly yet deep and interested D&B.

Floorplay combines a hypnotic techno-infused melody with top-notch percussion and a driving rhythm, while Salvation takes things darker with tough amens and some evil sounding samples that recall 2004 era techstep. True Face rounds off the release with a dark brooding, roller, once again imbued with some really detailed drum programming. Check out the beats below and grab yourself a copy now from any good digital outlet!

Rregula & Dementia – Turning Point LP [Citrus]

Long running dutch neurofunk imprint Citrus Recordings is gearing up for another LP release from Australian/German production duo Rregula & Dementia and true to form for both the label and the artists it’s packed full of futuristic neurofunk of the highest grade.

Vinyl buyers are treated to a pair of 12″ releases; the first plate sees Disphonia joining the studio fray for a dancefloor banger on Doom Loop while MC Kryptomedic provides vocals for a tough stepper on the flip. The second plate sees the big guns of the scene drawing up as we’re treated to remixes from Mefjus and Optiv & BTK, neither of which disappoint.

Watch out for the vinyl releases dropping on March 10th and 24th, with the full album following on CD and digital on March 31st.

Zere – Outsource / Interval [E-Motion]

US producer Zere steps up for the latest single from E-Motion. Outsource explores rolling liquid territory to nice effect, but for me the true star here is on the flip. Interval combines simple yet weighty sub with a tough edged break to give a brooding, dark roller embellished with some nice samples echoed over the mix. with support from the likes of Cern and Doc Scott this man should be one to watch over the coming years! Check out the clips below and watch out for the release dropping from Feb 24th.

Amit – The Parallel EP [AMAR]

Amit presents the second release on his own AMAR imprint, once again teaming up with Rani for vocal duties and presenting his signature style at both 170 and 140. I’ll Cut You Down treads a similar path to Human Warfare, with chunky half-step beats and tons of atmosphere, while Mr Clark goes dark and hypnotic, combining heavy sub, an old school reese lead and intricate, syncopated percussion.

On the flip side the 140 tunes come out, beginning with the classic dub sounds of Your Native God. Horns, sirens and sub are all in full effect here but the whole thing still has that signature Amit creepiness. Fans of The Bug’s King Midas Sound project should enjoy this one. Last but not least, Daaku strips things back to the bare essentials and gets that old school lead back on the go for a tidy slice of modern dubstep.

Check out the clips below and watch out for this one dropping on vinyl and digital from March 3rd.

Phonograph – Dreams of Heaven / Escape From Reality [Brain Network]

Brain Network dial things back a little from their usual neurofunk onslaught to present two dark brooding techstep beats from Phonograph. Opener Dreams Of Heaven brings to mind some of Ulterior Motive’s work, with deep yet understated bass, satisfyingly chunky drums and some great atmospheric synth work.

Escape From Reality continues the trend, morphing bass giving the tune character without swamping the composition and atmospherics playing a big part once again. Check out the clips below and grab the release from Beatport now!

Voima – Epiprocta / Apoplexy [Deep Field Audio]

Deep Field Audio’s fifth release comes from Polish newcomer (and olympic speed skater!) Voima, who serves up two rolling slices of dark techstep. Epiprocta (for the non-biology nerds, that refers to a sub order of dragonflies!) gets the blood flowing nicely with a precise, insistent roller imbued with some subtle but effective bassline modulation and fantastic rhythmic FX hits.

Apoplexy on the flip heads for darker territory with lush synth work on the intro giving way to big squelching bass swells and a heavy hitting drum pattern awash with great fills. Once again DFA have delivered a top notch release from a small name, and long may the trend continue. Look out for this one dropping from Feb 24th at all good digital outlets.
