Era opens up with half-time drums and ominous, brooding growls before dropping into precise, rolling percussion and a gargling, industrial reese line. Twisted keeps the tone pretty grimey but palces the emphasis on heavy kicks and snares with the bass taking a back seat.

Deep Field Audio’s fifth release comes from Polish newcomer (and olympic speed skater!) Voima, who serves up two rolling slices of dark techstep. Epiprocta (for the non-biology nerds, that refers to a sub order of dragonflies!) gets the blood flowing nicely with a precise, insistent roller imbued with some subtle but effective bassline modulation and fantastic rhythmic FX hits.
Apoplexy on the flip heads for darker territory with lush synth work on the intro giving way to big squelching bass swells and a heavy hitting drum pattern awash with great fills. Once again DFA have delivered a top notch release from a small name, and long may the trend continue. Look out for this one dropping from Feb 24th at all good digital outlets.
