Conscience – U Make Me Feel / Without Sleep [Flexout Audio]

Flexout present the debut single from London producer Conscience who brings two deep steppers to the label’s catalogue. Soft, emotional vibes are present on both tracks, with the drum grooves stripped back to the bare essentials allowing the pads and bass to breathe nicely. Both tunes are solid, but U Make Me Feel edges out as the dojo favourite with it’s melodic flourishes and understated use of vocals.

The release drops July 6th, so hit up the Flexout Bandcamp for pre-orders and check out the clips below.

Electrosoul System – Flawless LP [Med School]

Russian producer Andrey Burtaev has been making his mark on the D&B scene as Electrosoul System for a decade now, honing his craft with releases for Fokuz, Subtitles, Spearhead and more. His latest venture sees him turning in his second full length LP for Med School, and it’s a bit of a treat.

The first thing that struck me upon listening to the album was the detail and depth of the tracks; despite all being firmly drum & bass material and all being relatively DJ friendly in structure, there’s no laziness in the production, with every bar imbued with the minor variations that elevate a track from club fodder into something worthy of repeat home listening.

There’s also a variety in the album which somehow doesn’t spoil its cohesion as a body of work; every track sounds related to the last, but the influences and styles that went into the melting pot are wonderfully diverse. Picking favourites on such a strong record is tough, but the frenetic FX chopping of 8th Dimension and the serene, rolling breaks and jazzy licks of Past Time Cruiser stand out in particular.

Overall this is another strong contender for album of the year in a 7 month period that has already seen incredible full lengths from a number of artists both big and small. Check out the clips below and hit up the Hospital Store to grab a copy on CD, vinyl or digital; the album drops Jun 29th.

Futurist EP Vol. 2 [Faded Music]

Faded Music return with a fine selection on their latest EP featuring beats from Fade, NotioN, KAI, Fawce & P Fine. Fade sets the tone with a big raved up roller on Graviton, with a high energy lead over a punchy rolling break. Next up are NotioN, who keep things rolling but take things a bit grimier on the insistent and robotic Find It Out.

Fawce & KAI team up with P Fine for another grimey number in the form of Vengeance, before KAI totally switches things up with Take Away; this one has a great combo of soft, floaty melodies and growling low end for a pretty unique and quite stripped back tune.

Last but not least, Fade explores the more minimal half-time stylings on the dark, industrial sounds of Molfar. Tidy stuff as ever from Faded Music! Check out the clips below and grab this one from your favourite digital outlet right now.

DNB Dojo Mix Series 16: Fearful

MixSeries16_Fearful

We’ve kept an eye on Fearful ever since his release for AutomAte Tech in 2012 and have had the pleasure of watching his style and skills develop nicely, as amply evidenced on the Mechanism EP released by Diffrent earlier this year.

Pushing a deep, dark and unique style, we felt it was high time Fearful got involved in the Dojo Mix Series, and Chris has obliged with an hour of techy, underground selections. Fresh dubs, VIPs and heavyweight business from the likes of Amoss, Skeptical, Kush T, Perverse and many more; this one is definitely one for the heads.

As usual you can check out the mix via Soundcloud below or head to Mixcloud, Hearthis.at or iTunes to stream. You can also grab a download from Dropbox.

Tonic – Disposition LP [Modular Carnage]

Kiwi producer Tonic first appeared on the Dojo radar last month with a great release for AutomAte Deep, and it seems he’s been busy in the studio lately. His latest work dropped a couple of days ago via Modular Carnage in the form of a nine track LP, and it’s an impressive body of work.

The tracks on show explore a variety of vibes, with a few of the deep halftime outings amongst a selection of more rolling numbers, all with a shared tone via grimey bass filtrations, sci-fi synths and a general attention to detail. There’s also a willingness to experiment rather than just copycating common D&B sounds and structures, which is nice to hear.

Highlights come on the dubby, sprawling halftime of Disposition, the punchy, insistent roll of Heat Index and the skittering, bleeped up vibes of Collision. Check out the clips below and hit up the Modular Carnage website to grab the album now on a “pay what you like” basis.

Andy Sim – Liquidambar [Think Deep]

Liquid heads should already be familiar with Sydney’s Andy Sim; with releases for the likes of Good Looking, Fokuz, Rubik and of course his own Think Deep imprint he’s been a strong name (in an admittedly crowded niche) for the last eight years.

2015 sees him finally releasing the LP that he’s been working on for the last five years, and while it’s not stylistically groundbreaking it is an honest and heartfelt collection of tracks which are well worthy of your attention. The body of work bears the hallmarks of a labour of love – these tracks weren’t knocked up in a month and thrown together hastily, but rather have been tweaked and tinkered to perfection, if such a thing is musically possible.

Highlights come on the sparse, dubby Innerspace, the soft, jazzy licks of the LaMeduza-vocalled In Front Of You and the shimmering notes of Fantastic, but picking favourites is difficult. Listen to the clips below and make up your own mind; this one drops at all good digital retailers from June 22nd, and you can grab it on CD directly from Think Deep.

Seba – Jungle Music / Cloudless [Secret Operations]

Seba returns to his own Secret Operations label with another top notch 12″ release. Jungle Music lives up to it’s name with crunchy old-school breakwork and hefty sub leading the charge, giving way to some lovely atmospheric pads towards the bridge.

Over on the flip Cloudless delivers that trademark Seba liquid that fans of the Swedish producer know and love so well. Lush business! Check out the clips below and keep your eyes peeled for the release coming at the end of October.

M-soul, S27 & Mombosh – We Count These Moments [Flexout Audio]

The latest from Flexout sees a veritable horde of artists collaborating on two deep D&B rollers which strike a lovely balance between soul and edge. The vocal talents of Anna Rune grace the absolutely blissful We Count These Moments while Shanna provides subtler vocal contributions to the altogether techier As I’m Drifting. The clips should speak for themselves on these ones; hit up your favourite digital store to get your mits on these ones right now.

Duo Infernale – Closer [Infiltrator]

Berlin producers Duo Infernale return to the scene with a great new single for German label Infiltrator Records. Closer provides a chunky teched up stepper with plenty of soul and some lush vocals from Panic Girl; a nice dancefloor warmer for that middle part of the night before the heavy hitters amp things up.

Over on the flip Cause4Concern’s Make Me Wonder gets a great new remix. The original saw release on the now defunct Shadybrain imprint and proved an unusually mellow number compared to C4C’s usually banging output, and this new remix does the original’s vibe justice while flipping things around with a rolling break and techy bass underpins. Nice!

Check out the clips below and look for this on vinyl and digital from June 15th.

Future Tense EP [Turbine Music]

Dust Audio sublabel Turbine returns with a menacing selection on their latest Various Artists EP, Future Tense. Acid Lab leads the charge with creepy atmospherics on the intro dropping into old school break chops and reese bass. Love the tension on this one! Slider and Expose keep it grimey on the appropriately titled The Wrath…definitely some angst in the mix here.

Out into the back end of the EP we’re treated to sparse, militant halfstep from Akinsa and industrial tinged business from Antagonist. Deep and dark all the way. Check out the clips below and grab this one from your favourite digital store now!
