Quentin Hiatus – Chocolate Cosmos EP [Free Love Digi]

Free Love Digi continue their steady onslaught of releases with a fresh EP from label boss Quentin Hiatus. Pushing the boundaries as ever, Quentin explores more weird and wonderful takes on the 170BPM sound. The Struggle melts down influences from techno and beyond for a psychedelic and potent slice of 4×4 D&B, while Chocolate Cosmos hits those slouching, hip-hop style halftime riddims that Mr Hiatus does so well.

One Way Or Another goes into deep space, harnessing the power of dub for a tripped out, reverb drenched jam. Last but not least, Understatement ups the ante a bit with angular percussion and an ominous, robotic vibe. Check out the clips below and watch out for this dropping at all good digital outlets from Feb 23rd.

Generous man that he is Quentin is also giving away a nice little freebie to promote the EP in the form of Lucy. Treading similar ground to The Struggle, this one’s got more than a hint of techno to it; check it out and grab a free download from Soundcloud.

Mauoq – Aerosolid (Medika Rmx) / Free The Past VIP

Four years of silence have passed since Mauoq Music’s first release, but Mauoq has finally taken it upon himself to revive the imprint with two fresh new takes on the tracks from the first release. Medika turns in a fresh remix of Aerosolid while Mauoq revisits Free The Past for a new VIP. Both tracks deliver exactly the kind of deep, atmospheric halfstep the man has made his name delivering over the past few years; no surprises, but plenty to enjoy. Check out the clips below and grab this one from Bandcamp now, with full release following from Feb 20th.

Seba – Inside Yourself / Berberian Sound [Secret Operations]

pr173_secops-022-center-2mmd384re

Seba’s latest single sees him blending the sounds of deep house and techno with the tempo and rhythms of Drum & Bass. For once the description in the press release is actually pretty illuminating: “This is the type of sound that I listen to when I go out clubbing. The only difference is that the tempo is usually 125-130 BPM”. The stabs, pads and general atmosphere of Inside Yourself will certainly be familiar to anyone with an ear for techno production.

Berberian Sound moves things into spookier territory, with the synth lead and booming bass both lending the track a tense, ominous edge. As usual Seba’s ability to craft detailed, clever beats with one foot on the dancefloor and the other in some strange dimension remains unassailable. Check out the clips below and watch out for this one dropping on vinyl and digital from Feb 16th (though judging by the delays on the last Secret Operations release, this may slip).

Mystic State – Lingua / Rainmaker [Blendits]

Dutch club night/label collective Blendits drop another pair of excellent beats for their seventh release, continuing the label’s excellent selection of deep yet still dancefloor worthy tunes. A-side Lingua sees the Mystic State boys teaming up with fellow production duo Monoscript for a driving, subby number with plenty of tasty percussive details and a dubby vocal hook. The flip sees the Mystics back to solo duties, blending jazzy licks with junglistic breaks for a big booming stepper. Check out the clips below and grab this one from your favourite digital outlet now!

Fuj – Talus Nights / Aphotic Zone [AutomAte Deep]

AutomAte Deep keep things dark and moody as Fuj returns to the label with two fresh new tracks. Similar in style to his previous Terror Firmer single, Talus Nights and Aphotic Zone both feature ominous pads, throbbing bass and detailed percussion. Halfstep heads will love these! Check the clips below and grab a copy from your favourite store right now!

Mako, Villem & McLeod – Inner Revolution [Utopia Music]

The Utopia family return with a silky smooth liquid roller from bossman Mako alongside familiar partner in crime Villem and his erstwhile sidekick McLeod. Inner Revolution is pure bliss! Over on the flip Villem & McLeod go in deeper, swapping the uptempo breaks for a downtempo half-time beat but retaining the lush synth work and soulful vocals of the A side. Musicality and feeling all the way on this one. Hit up Redeye to grab this on vinyl right now, with digital release to follow very soon.

Tephra & Arkoze – New Blood / The Gunman [Nurtured Beatz]

Nurtured Beatz round off a great year with another impressive release, this time from Tephra & Arkoze. Sticking to the label’s MO for deep, dark, innovative beats, both tracks bring together detailed percussion, growling low end and a talent for atmospherics for a pair of tracks that should shake a few room 2 soundsystems over the coming months. Check out the clips below and grab the release from your favourite digital outlet now!

Infra Audientia Part 2 [Dark Manoeuvres]

Dark Manouevres close out their year with the second part of their Infra Audientia series, featuring 4 more tracks from some talented lesser known names. Native goes in super deep on the melancholy liquid of Gone, while Ower strips it back to the bare essentials of bass, breaks and piano licks for Another Day.

Dser’s wobbly bass and break chopping on Death Valley doesn’t really do much for me, but the EP still finishes strong as Beaton turns in a tough techy roller on the creepy, atmospheric Reproduction Prohibition. Check out the clips below and look for this one at your favourite digital stores from December 15th.

Creatures – Raindrops / Everyday [Default Recordings]

Default serve up a fresh pair of deep liquid rollers from new signings Creatures. Raindrops leads the charge with twinklings melodies over a backbone of warm sub and crisp breaks, while Everyday recruits Majula to the studio for a softer collab with hints of jungle via some classic samples. Check out the clips below and look for this one from December 15th at all good digital stores.

Virtue – You And I / Whatcha Gonna Do [E-Motion Records]

Virtue returns to E-Motion with another top notch single. Hannah Eve steps up for vocal duties on You And I, providing the perfect accompaniment to the familiar but nonetheless pleasant liquid trappings of the tune. The breakwork is absolutely spot on for this one.

Over on the flip Whatcha Gonna Do sees Virtue teaming up with Soul Culture for a jazz infused, bouncy dancefloor roller – the perfect contrast to the more melancholy vibes of the A side. Check out the clips below and grab this from your favourite digital store from December 8th.
