Bossman Altered Perception turns in an upbeat, rolling remix of Quatermass’s Skycity, Rush Records chieftain Colossus turns his hand to Quatermass’s Entanglement and Dead Electrics’ Connected, and Quatermass gets in on the act to close things off a crisp new flex of Dead Electrics’ Girl. Horizons Music celebrate 10 years in the game with an excellent new compilation featuring 14 fresh cuts from names that will be familiar to anyone who’s been following the label in recent times. The compilation takes a look back at the label’s very first release, with Jubei and Amoss both turning in remixes of Skitty’s 10 Steps, but for the most part they’re looking forward with new material from some of the best names in the scene.
It’s difficult to pick highlights from such a strong selection, but a few stand out from the pack. Silent Witness brings a perfectly balanced combination of melodic elements and rolling, dancefloor tech on Fields, Amoss explore their deeper side on the subby liquid of Piano Licks and DLR turns in a trademark chunky stepper on Outta Time. The whole LP is well worth a listen, so check out the clips below and head to your favourite outlet to grab this on CD, vinyl or digital now!
The latest from the Lifestyle camp sees SND return to the label with 5 tracks of crisp, detailed D&B. Annihiliation provides the EP’s most conventional slice of D&B with a nice chunky stepper, while the rest of the EP explores moody half-step territory. One for the heads! Digital returns to Horizons (after his rather excellent Figjam EP) with a fresh EP of deep 170BPM explorations. Deathwish kicks things off with a deep, dubby slice of tribal halfstep, while My World changes track, taking things in a minimal, almost liquid direction.
Damage sees Outrage joining Digital in the studio for a dangerous slice of break chopping and old school synth work, providing the EP’s most obviously dancefloor focussed track. Joker sees regular partner in crime Spirit in for the collab, blending acid synths, frantic syncopations and dubby echoes over a solid backbone of bass. Last but not least, Cold Case takes things dark and minimal for a moody close to the release.

G.H.O.S.T’s latest beats on their own Goldman Records imprint were a pleasant surprise when they fell into the Dojo inbox, and it’s safe to say I’ll be keeping an eye on these guys in future. The Syrup EP features a tasty selection; the title track providing a deep, subby slice of atmospheric liquid to open the salvo, with soft pads and crisp breaks giving the tune definition and character.
On the flip things get a hefty switchup, with Swinger exploring glitchy, hip-hop infused territory at halftime tempo and Pecker providing a skittering hyper-syncopated drum workout. Last but by no means least Endless Blue heads back in a more fluid direction, taking it’s cues from the classic drumfunk and intelligent D&B of yesteryear. Vinyl fans can grab the EP on wax from Bandcamp and the digital versions should be available at all good digital stores from December 1st.
Free Love Digi bring us yet another essential release, cementing the label’s reputation for cutting edge 170BPM sounds. Nootropics opens the salvo on Ghast’s latest work, showing a clever progression from the raging tech of the drop into the mellower and more atmospheric tones of the second half of the track. Retrovertigo sees this atmosphere flowing onwards into glitchy, half-time drums and deep, rich synth leads and atmospheres.
The Drake Equation brings the tone to a darker place again, with creepy synths and frenetic, jungle-infused drums clattering away as the tune drives along. Last but not least Vice Versa brings together twisted jazz licks, eastern vocal cut ups and a slouching, hip-hop-ish beat for the EP’s most “far out” track. Truly innovative stuff. It’s not often we love an album so much that we blog it twice, but Tokyo Prose’s debut for Samurai Music is not just any album. Presence has been on rotation here at Dojo HQ pretty steadily since it’s release earlier this year, and being fans of vinyl we were excited to see more of the label’s tracks getting a wax release. Continued Presence sees four more of Sam’s favourites from the album being committed to a beautiful blue and white disc, and you get a free digital bonus in the form of My Soul. Dust Audio present their fifth release with three great new tracks from some of the best producers in the scene. Gerwin teams up with vocalist LaMeduza for a soft liquid stepper tinged with grimey bass in the inimitable liquid-tech hybrid style that I always enjoyed from the French producer. Next up rising star Trilo delivers a typically militant slice of rolling tech D&B, with crisp breaks and dark, dirty bass the order of the day.
Last but not least, the mighty Break steps up to remix Gerwin’s A-side, upping the energy on the beats and lending the tune a more dancefloor-friendly vibe while retaining the soul of the original. Check out the clips below and watch out for the release dropping on vinyl and digital December 15th!
Diffrent are back with another essential release for those of you who like your D&B on the leftfield end of the spectrum. Kolectiv return to the label after their contribution to last year’s Giraffe LP with their first dedicated release and they’ve brought their A game to the table.
Lead track Immortalis blends influences from hip-hop and footwork with grimey D&B bass and twisted vocals for a crisp, detailed drum workout. Make Me sees Diffrent boss Dexta join the trio for more detailed percussion edits alongside squelchy bass vibrations and a vocal cut that sounds like it was lifted from a classic rave 12″.
Sleeper Cell brings some jazzy influences to the table alongside a militant kick-led beat and a dark, stabbing bassline that should provoke a few screwfaces in the dance. Last but not least for the digital release Kolectiv team up with Mauoq for a hard, nasty slice of dark D&B appropriately titled Killer Instinct; bleak, menacing stuff here.
You can pre-order the album on CD (with two exclusive bonus tracks) from the Diffrent Store now, with discs shipping from November 10th; digital will follow on Juno from the 17th and everywhere else from the 24th.
AutomAte’s latest release sees None Decay return to the imprint’s “Green” wing for a solo artist EP showcasing their deep, dark, minimal stylings. Carnea opens the EP with a stripped back, crisp, minimal drum workout, while Clockwork moves along like it’s namesake at a steady, tribal gate punctuated with steely percussion and echoing FX.
Paesan recruits Stakka Lyrics to provide vocal duties over another stark, stripped back combo of beats and bass, and the MCing doesn’t disappoint; quick flows, smart rhymes and an appropriately swaggering delivery give this one plenty of character. It’s left to Last Midnight to close the EP, building up with creepy pads and a nicely lifted vocal snippet from True Detective before dropping into a grimey combination of bass and frenetic, cymbal-led beats. Tasty stuff.
