Mutated Forms – Crowlin / Reach You In Your Sleep [Blu Mar Ten Music]

Blu Mar Ten music return with the long sought after Crowlin from Mutated Forms. For many this one will need no introduction but for those who haven’t heard it, it’s a nice mix of soulful pads, deep vocals and healthy bass growl over a tight, stepper’s beat.

Over on the flip Reach You In Your Sleep heads for more experimental territory with scattershot rhythms and a hip-hop infused half-time beat taking centre stage over some nice scratch-style vocal cuts and deep sub action. Watch out for this one dropping from March 3rd.

Boundaries EP Pt. 2 [Default Recordings]

Milton Keynes label Default Recordings return with part two of their Boundaries EP featuring a selection of tracks from the label family. Highlights include QST’s lush, deep roller Wonderland, and Foureye’s upbeat and detailed Lost For Words. Fans of the jazzier side of D&B will also find some tasty liquid from West & Cat Knight. Check out the clips below and watch out for the release dropping at all good digital stores from March 3rd.

Zere – Outsource / Interval [E-Motion]

US producer Zere steps up for the latest single from E-Motion. Outsource explores rolling liquid territory to nice effect, but for me the true star here is on the flip. Interval combines simple yet weighty sub with a tough edged break to give a brooding, dark roller embellished with some nice samples echoed over the mix. with support from the likes of Cern and Doc Scott this man should be one to watch over the coming years! Check out the clips below and watch out for the release dropping from Feb 24th.

Ower & Identified – I Should Have Let Go [Dark Manoeuvres]

Ower teams up with Identified on London label Dark Manoeuvres’ 6th single to kick in a deep, soulful roller characterised by soft female vocals and warm strings. On the B side Running To The Void sees Ower go it alone on a haunting, minimal number which combines dark, faintly robotic bass with some excellent atmospherics and lead flourishes drenched in reverb.

Check out the clips below and watch out for this one dropping Feb 24th from all good digital outlets.

Ivy Lab – Missing Persons EP [Critical Music]

Ivy Lab - Missing Persons EP

Ivy Lab return to Critical Music to build on the success of their initial singles with an EP showcasing their depth and versatility. Predictably the EP kicks off with a deep, soulful roller featuring the vocal talents of Frank Carter III, but this is by far from the best track in the release. It’s a bit of a shame that the trio is so reluctant to put their name on anything without at least one trademark track of this style, but it’s still well enough executed to be forgiveable.

On to more interesting things, Live Your Smile combines the depth and atmospherics the Lab are so good at with a sexier vocal and a more insistent drum pattern; smooth, sure, but with an edge that gives the track character and a hint of the autonomic vibe that dBridge employs so well.

Pepper sees Critical stablemate Emperor joining in for a collab with unusual results – there’s more than a hint of techno to this one, between the hypnotic drums and the faintly acid lead line. Dark and deadly! Finally Sunday Crunk delivers the oddest (and arguably best) track on the EP, kicking in some seriously swung half-time beats and a big bad bass riff that’s sure to get you nodding your head.

For the digital buyers Pepper also gets a tasty glitched up remix from Deft which is well worth a look. Check out the clips below and watch out for the EP dropping on general release from Feb 24th. For the vinyl enthusiasts there’s also a super limited edition vinyl release with handmade artwork dropping from the 17th…check out the Ivy Lab website for more on that.

Mako, DLR, Villem & Ant TC1 – Hungry For Atmosphere [Metalheadz]

Metalheadz continue their winning form with a super collab from Mako, DLR, Villem & Ant TC1! The four D&B masterminds apparently ensconced themselves in Mako’s Bristol studio to write this one, which blends beautiful deep pads and cinematic sample work with a tough break and some fantastic warped bass. This one is all about texture and delivers it in spades.

Apparently Ant TC1 had to return to the real world but the other three continued the sesh and went in hard on the B side. A Certain Flavour delivers kick snare sucker punches a plenty with a big dirty bassline to boot and is sure to be doing the damage on dancefloors. Serious business.

Check out the clips below and grab this on vinyl or digital from Monday!

Dead Battery – The Devil’s Signature [Kannibalen]

It’s always a pleasure to get sent great new tunes from producers and labels you’ve not been previously aware of, and the latest work from Austrian producer Dead Battery fits exactly that description! The young producer has cooked up two new tunes for Montreal based bass label Kannibalen and they’re a bit of a treat.

A-side The Devil’s Signature is a relentless assault of beats and bass, building with a cheeky horror-movie sample before dropping the hammer with an absolutely fearsome rolling break and a fearsome midrange reese. Over on the flip Just For Now delivers a melancholy roller with deep sub and crisp breaks punctuated with beautiful piano and some well placed subtle bass growls.

Quentin Hiatus – Zanj Rebellion [Translation Recordings]

Translation Recordings continue their excellent run of forward thinking releases with an EP from Quentin Hiatus. Zanj Rebellion combines shimmering pad ambience, warm low end and heavily syncopated, off-kilter rhythms to create a sound that feels like the spirit of drumfunk channelled via recent footwork influenced production.

Over on the flip Solidify continues the trend for heavily syncopated rhythms but with more of an industrial vibe, and hints of dub and techno sitting prominently in a mix that features some excellent stereo separation.

As if that wasn’t enough there’s also a free track available for download in the form of Summer in Winter, featuring more in the way of rich synths and weird rhythms, this time overlaid with some Burial style vocal echoes. Check out the tracks below and grab the release from the Translation Bandcamp.

Seba – Mesmerism EP [Secret Operations]

Seba follows up on last year’s Identity LP with a varied new EP for his Secret Operations imprint. Mesmerism gets the EP off to a fine start with a skanking half-step beat and lilting, spacey leads over dubbed out low end. Next up Physickl shifts the tone with rich synths and playful acid sounds building up to an insistent stepping beat layered over an irresistibly stark hook.

Of course it wouldn’t be a Seba release without at least one trademark deep liquid tune, and Life Is delivers that sound we’ve come to know and love – understated melodies and warm, deep sub bass. This one isn’t quite up there with Under The Sun’s masterclass in liquid euphoria but it’s still a worthy addition to Seba’s impressive back catalogue. Finally Science Fiction heads for darker territory with detailed, angular percussion on a tune that wouldn’t sound out of place in a Fracture set.

Once again Seba and Secret Operations proves to be a force to be reckoned with. Check out the teaser below and look out for the release dropping very soon.

Eastcolors – Toys / Creeper [ProgRAM]

Russian producer Eastcolors follows up his contributions to the ProgRAMmed EPs with a new single for the RAM sub-imprint. Toys shows a great flare for combining dancefloor sensibilities with more musical elements, lush chiming chords taking centre stage on the intro before giving way to clean breaks and weighty sub.

Creeper takes things a bit darker with a jungle influenced break and heavier filtered mid-range characterising the tune; this one is definitely the beast to the A-side’s beauty. Check out the beats below and grab the release on vinyl and digital now!
