Amoss – Bumbaclart / Dilate [Horizons]

It’s been a few months since the last Amoss releases dropped but far from slacking off it seems the boys have been busy in the studio knocking up some characteristically dark beats. Both Bumbaclart and Dilate showcase the stripped back style we’ve come to know and love from the duo, kicking in with crisp, tribal drum lines and tons of sub. Minimal, atmospheric and powerful, these are beats for the drum & bass connoisseur.

As if that wasn’t enough Andy and James have also recorded the latest Horizons Music podcast which features new cuts from Hybris, Fearful and Fracture alongside their new beats for Horizons and some amusing patter to boot. Check out the podcast below and grab the single on promo from the Horizons store.

Philth & Wreckless – Poison [Automate]

Bristol’s Automate DnB have been carving themselves a nice little niche as purveyors of dirty tech beats via their Automate Tech imprint and their latest release delivers more of that from big and small names alike.

The A side sees Philth & Wreckless team up for a deep, dark, reese-imbued stepper with some deftly off-kilter breakbeat work that brings to mind some of Skitty’s older releases. Filled with both depth and grit, the track marks out these new producers as ones to watch.

Over on the flip the label scores a remix from the mighty Raiden who puts his touch to Arclight’s Pluroform. Gone are the clattering breaks of the original, replaced with a deeper, more tribal rhythm and some nice bass sweeps, making a great match for the deep and dark of the A-side.

Look out for this one dropping May 6th via all good digital stores!

In The Mix…Dominic Petrie

dompetrie

Dominic Petrie (previously known as Y2D) brings us a superbly deep and soulful mix featuring tunes from Bungle, Tokyo Prose, Enei, Alix Perez, Paradox and more, and a sneak peak of his latest work Valid Invalid – look out for this one dropping on Nookie’s Phuzion imprint sometime soon! Smooth vibes all the way.

In The Mix…Homemade Weapons

Up and coming US D&B producer Homemade Weapons brings us a tidy mix for Vancouver bass crew Fractured Technique! This one is all clattering snares and darkness, and with support from the likes of Loxy, dBridge, Skeptical, Clarity, Hybris, it’s no surprise. Check out the mix below and keep an eye on the FT Facebook page for news on their events.

Command Strange – Hyperbug / Regrets [Horizons]

Kazakhstan may seem like an unlikely place for a prolific D&B producer to be based, but it hasn’t stopped the inimitable Command Strange from chalking up a ridiculously large discography over the past few years, on prestigious labels like Fokuz and Metalheadz Platinum. 2013 seems likely to see a slew more top notch releases, and among the first is a tidy little 12″ for Horizons.

A side Hyperbug sees the man from ‘stan bringing the dancefloor vibes with a dark stepper that features some nice jungle-tinged breakbeat fills but for me it’s all about the soulful, melancholy atmosphere of Regrets on the flip. Beautiful piano melodies and echoing vocal cut ups combine with a dark bass that gives the track enough edge to avoid formulaic liquid territory. One for the deep selectors.

To celebrate the release Command Strange has also recorded the latest episode of the Horizons podcast, which you can check out (and download for free) below. Grab the release from the Horizons shop, out now!

Maduk & Nymfo – Crossroad / Ordinary Ways [Allsorts]

It’s always interesting to hear producers crossing boundaries into unfamiliar territory (even if it is only from one substyle to another) so the news that Nymfo was putting out a collab with liquid producer Maduk for Allsorts piqued my interest. Leaving his usual gritty techstep at home for this one, Nymfo has teamed up nicely here and the pair deliver a couple of really crisp, melodic, understated liquid rollers. Crossroads kicks things off nicely, but for me it’s all about Ordinary Ways on the flip. Warm bass, crisp beats and slightly treated vocals all combine to deliver that irresistible, classic liquid sound.

Watch out for this one hitting stores on Mar 25th.

Get To Know…IM:Ltd

We’ve covered some of the excellent material from IM:Ltd here on DnB Dojo before, and given the two excellent releases they have lined up for March and April, now seemed like a great time to do a little retrospective on the label. Started up in 2009, the French label has been busy putting out a slew of excellent digital releases from a variety of up and coming acts, and has found time to craft a few limited 12″ releases too. The quality and style of the labels output has always leaned towards the deeper, moodier side of Drum & Bass, often eschewing the dancefloor in favour of creating atmospheres better suited to the 6am after party. Favourable comparisons can be drawn to the likes of Data’s output for Horizons, such as Mortem’s excellent Stratos 12″ released back in 2011.

But don’t mistake the imprint for a one trick pony. Not everything you’ll find on show here is merely for the chin-stroking heads; while avoiding out-and-out tearers, the label has definitely put out it’s fair share of insistent steppers such as their releases from Future Signal and Paiton.

All of which brings us up to the here and now, and the impending release of the Aftermath LP. Showcasing a mixture of leftfield Drum & Bass and more downtempo, Autonomic-esque vibes, the 10 track release packs some serious atmosphere. Highlights come from Es.tereo and Marilyn with the sublime Winteria, Calculon who delivers a brilliant clap-and-shuffle floater with Hold Back, and Physical Illusions’ We Feeling What We Doing which features a seriously smooth, laid back flow from MC KryptoMedic.

As though that isn’t enough, IM:Ltd just delivered us some grittier numbers on the aptly titled Hunted EP which dropped earlier this week. The EP heads for decidedly heavier territory than some of the labels previous releases, with some seriously dark bass on show, particularly on Disept’s Course and Kuantum’s rather excellent Lost & Found.

So get over to your favourite digital outlet and check out the tidy back catalogue!

Mise En Place EP Pt. 2 [Ingredients]

The latest release from slightly left-field label Ingredients is really something special. The follow up to last year’s Mise En Place Pt. 1 sees a strong selection from artists both new and old.

First up is Dub Phizix with a beautifully melancholy number in the form of Rainy City Music. The Manchester drum-punch don has gone soft on us for this one, layering together soft pads, warm bass and natural percussion to make a lush tune that is all atmosphere and no bite, and fantastic for it.

Switching things up for track 2, the legendary Break turns in a cracking slice of uptempo yet reserved breakbeat led D&B with his remix of Villem‘s Splinter In Your Mind. All the usual hallmarks are there (that drum break, seriously) and the compositional strength and bassline tone are sure to put a smile on your face.

Skeptical delivers a punchy stepper with a VIP of Blue Eyes, and finally dRamatic & dbAudio round the EP off with the menacing snares and sub growl of the aptly titled No Return. Check out the previews below and watch out for the release very soon!
