German producer dreadmaul lands in our premiere spotlight again today with a typically creeping, tribal halftime cut. Forthcoming on US imprint Conspired Within Music, this one conjures the spirits with a potent mixture of pulsing sub, skittering breaks and voodoo magic. Dope! Look out for the release dropping April 5th (with another top release from dreadmaul dropping the same day on Ronin Ordinance to boot).

dreadmaul & Bereneces – Aakhu [Vykhod Sily]
Fans of the deeper end of D&B may already be familiar with Russia’s Vykhod Sily – started as a podcast in 2013 by DJ and 170 enthusiast Rustee, the series quickly amassed mixes by the likes of Mauoq, Dyl, Dominic Ridgway and tons more across an archive that now spans well over 200 episodes.
Four years on and with fairly deep roots in the scene, Vykhod Sily have launched a digital label and the first release comes from previous podcast guests dreadmaul & Bereneces, who collaborate on a pair of ultra-minimal halftime steppers. If you’re a fan of all things dark, ominous and tribal in the 170 region then this should be right up your alley; both tracks are stark and creepy, with the sheer atmosphere of Intercontinental edging it out as our favourite of the two.
Be sure to keep an eye on the VS pages for more digital releases (and many, many more podcasts); in the meantime, check out their first release below. It’s available on streaming platforms right now; if you want a copy to keep you need to support the label via Patreon.
Premiere: dreadmaul – Vodou Priestress
Creepy atmospheres and gritty bass textures on today’s exclusive from German producer dreadmaul! Dropping soon via Leipzig label Boundless Beatz, Vodou Priestress combines a driving halfstep rhythm with layers of distortion, tribal drum fills and spooky leads to conjure some dark magic for the dance. Wicked stuff! Look for this one coming on the Dust & Bones EP from Mar 20th via all good digital stores.
DNB Dojo Mix Series 36: Dreadmaul
The Dojo Mix Series is back and this time we’ve got German underground producer Dreadmaul in the mix! With releases for the likes of Authentic Music, Boundless Beatz and T3K, Dennis Leick has been carving out quite a reputation as both a producer and DJ, gigging regularly across his native Deutschland.
His mix for DNB Dojo builds slowly from deep halftime numbers through harder techstep and into dangerous, threatening amens including Dojo favourite Destroyer of Worlds. Sick selections!
As usual you can check out the mix via Soundcloud below or head to Youtube, Mixcloud, Hearthis.at or iTunes to stream. You can also grab a download from Google Drive.
Dojo Damager: Dreadmaul – Destroyer Of Worlds
When you have the audacity to give your track a name like Destroyer of Worlds then you better be bringing something pretty vicious to the table lest your wares fall a bit flat; thankfully Dreadmaul has delivered the goods in spades, hence the track’s selection as this week’s Dojo Damager!
With a nod to classic hardstep from the likes of Evol Intent, Tech Itch and Dom & Roland, this is a dark amen smasher replete with hefty sub and ominous raved up stabs, and it’ll definitely destroy some raves if not any actual worlds. Check out the clip below and hit up Juno to grab a copy right now.
Various – Enforcement EP [Authentic Music]
2014 seems to be the year of A-Cray as the budding producer storms a variety of labels with innovative, heavy hitting beats. His latest work graces Authentic Music’s 10th release as the opening track and busts some seriously unusual rhythms, with relentless kicks and unusual percussion taking centre stage in a composition that has little need of melody.
Elsewhere on the EP Epidemic gets on the remix, turning in a dark, rolling rework of Dreadmaul & MC Kryptomedic’s Mill City. Fans of the 140 sound will also find a two slabs of dark, cinematic dubstep from Hemoglobin and Architech. Can’t say fairer than that eh? Check out the clips below and grab this one from your favourite digital outlet now.
