UFO! – Hyper Norm [Evol Intent]

Fans of the recent boom in “future jungle” will definitely be into this one; Evol Intent Recordings present the latest in their intermittent but excellent release schedule with a top class EP from San Francisco producer UFO!

Better known in recent years for lower-tempo bass music and trap beats, UFO! returns to his jungle roots for this EP, keeping things frantic but still melding in plenty of unusual influences from elsewhere in the electronic spectrum.

YGMFU kicks things off with booming bass and classic jungle breaks, while Thing Into My Brain takes cues from footwork with its combination of syncopated sub rhythm and hyperactive vocal cut ups. This one is a proper ear-worm, and the rapidity just makes it all the more infectious.

Logue combines more of that dangerous breakbeat intensity with hip-hop influenced bass vibrations worthy of fellow SF basshead EPROM, leaving Ghost Behaviour to dial things down a notch for a light-edged shuffle with a slightly tropical sound.

Four hyped-up future jungle cuts lovingly sandwiched between spacey intro/outro material makes for a wicked little EP! Here’s hoping we hear more 170 business from UFO! in the future; check out the beats below and hit up your favourite digital store to grab the EP right now.

Aeph – Enter The Vision [Lifted Music]

Aeph returns to Lifted Music after the storming success of the Black Hoax single with a five track EP of futuristic neurofunk belters. As with previous releases the level of production detail on show here is staggering, and the balance between musicality and dancefloor sensibilities is finely tuned.

ETV builds tension nicely with orchestral samples and arpeggianated leads before dropping heavy snares and massive growling bass, teasing with a half-time beat in the first half before building up to a full tempo drop in the second. True Motion concentrates more on bass modulations, while still letting the synth leads peak their head into the mix for character.

Back To The Jungle showcases Aeph’s obvious affinity with 80s synth work, with a distinctly Night Rider-esque lead on the intro giving way to more warped neurofunk at the drop. Crusade dials things back slightly for a more groove-based approach, with rhythmic sub hits really driving the tune underneath catchy, bright synth work. Finally Aeph Is Dead drops the tempo for a surprising slice of funky electro house complete with slap bass!

Reso – Pulse Code EP [Hospital]

I’ve been a fan of Reso ever since his early releases in the dubstep scene and more recent work at the 170 tempo has consistently proved his talents as a producer of tight, innovative electronic beats. His latest Ep for Hospital continues that trend, with particular highlights coming on Pulse Code (which sports some of the finest drum editing I’ve heard recently) and the monstrous Devastator, a spiritual successor to the epic War Machine.
