MZE/IIx – Chi EP [Break The Surface]

Leipzig label Break The Surface are back with a great new EP from multi-identity producer MZE aka IIx, who showcases his take on the halftime sound across four cracking new tracks.

The halftime sound can sometimes be accused of being “deep” to the point of boredom but that’s definitely not the case here; tracks like Dibia and Tsetse have more than enough playful drum syncopation and bassweight to make bodies move in the dance. Even the more groove-led One Six has a hypnotic appeal, bringing in influences from dub and techno for a mesmerizing journey.

Coma – Burn The Past EP [Flexout Audio]

The latest release from London imprint Flexout sees Coma stepping up to the plate with a four track EP full of deep, dark flavours and some tasty collaborations.

Gritty tech minimalism is the order of the day here, with plenty of crisp percussion and grimy bass to drive the tunes along. Dionysus is one of the obvious highlights, combining the swaggering vocals of Sense MC with an ominous combo of kick, snare and heavy sub.

Out into the back side of the EP there are also some slick collabs with Arkaik and Semitone, and overall this is a tight cross-section of murky tracks for those who like their D&B threatening and minimal. Check out the clips below and hit up the Flexout Bandcamp to grab the release right now!

DNB Dojo Mix Series 25: Cirrus

Following hot on the heels of our last mix from Fuj, Terra Null Recordings boss Cirrus steps up with the 25th instalment of the DNB Dojo Mix Series! Whether via the excellent releases on Terra Null or his other work for Terabyte, Nurtured Beatz and AutomAte, Cirrus has been making waves within the dark D&B world for a couple of years and that looks set to continue.

His selection for DNB Dojo features new dubs from the catalogues of Terabyte, Alchemic Breaks and Terra Null alongside a host of Cirrus productions and beats from the likes of Ruffhouse, Red Army and Skeptical. Militant head nodders and grimey textures all the way on this one.
