Classic Track: Future Cut – Ghetto Style (Evol Intent Remix)

We’re digging in the hardware vaults once again for this week’s classic track and looking back to the golden era of hard as nails techstep. 10 years ago Evol Intent’s remix of Future Cut’s Ghetto Style saw release on Renegade Hardware’s Reloaded EP Part 1, and their rework absolutely knocks the track out of the park.

Rattling breakbeats, huge distorted bass hits and that trademark Evol Intent glitchwork along with a set of memorable hooks on the intro make this a firm favourite, and better still it got the remaster treatment as part of EI’s #TBT weekly giveaways! Check out the remaster below and grab yourself a free download from their Soundcloud.

Dread – Geometry of Sound EP [Critical Bass]

It’s always nice to get something a little different in the Dojo inbox so Dread’s new EP for Critical Bass made a welcome change from the more traditional D&B releases we’re often sent. Geometry of Sound presents four tracks of hard, nasty crossbreed with all the edge and fury you’d expect from the style. If you like your D&B with a touch of the gabba to it then check out the clips below and look out for the EP dropping from October 19th at all good digital stores.

Forbidden Society – Monger Remix Contest

As he gears up for an album release in September, Forbidden Society is giving budding producers the chance to be a part of the release with a remix competition! The best remix will be featured on the album and the winner will also receive a free copy of the album and a free t-shirt. Can’t say fairer than that really. Check out the original track below and head over here for full details of the contest.

Rusty K – AC-130 / The Savage [Close2Death]

Rusty K follows up his recent release for Breed 12 Inches with a devastating new 12″ for Close2Death Recordings. AC-130 provides a huge gabba-kick imbued maelstrom of bass and beats, twisted midrange riffage punctuated by half-time drums before a jump to full-speed in the back of the verse.

As you might guess from the name The Savage is no deep liquid number either; hip-hop style beats on the intro give way to a big synth lead and a massive full roll drop; maximal stylings for maximum neurofunk destruction. Check out the clips below and grab yourself a copy on vinyl or digital now!

Classic Track: Audio & The Sect – Pounded

Audio has been steadily establishing a rep as one of the tightest producers in the Techstep/Neurofunk scene, with a knack for combining the harder edge of drum & bass with dancefloor sensibilities. For today’s classic track we look back to 2008 and Audio’s first LP for Dylan’s Freak Recordings.

While the album is packed full of tasty hardstep including some other memorable tunes, Audio’s collab with The Sect for Pounded remains one of my favourite tunes from this era. Unrelenting in the pressure of it’s drum lines and featuring deft use of a sample many will recognise from a 2 Many DJ’s mix, the tune still kicks just as hard now as it did five years ago. Check it out below.

Audio – Force of Nature [Virus]

Audio’s third LP for Virus Recordings touched down last week and predictably it’s a bit of a monster, with huge tearing tracks like Airborne and Botfly taking centre stage. In between the stompers Audio has also crafted some less predictable numbers such as the infectious melody-infused Mudshark and the gritty Carcuss featuring the vocal talents of Stapleton. Audio also indulges his obvious passion for movies by pilaging King of New York for samples on the appropriately titled Pusher, which brings to mind his excellent work on Power of Fear.

To celebrate the release Virus are holding an album launch party at The Egg in London on Wednesday November 20th. Entry is free before 11pm so head over here for the details and check it out! Force Of Nature is out now via all good outlets.

Syk2ne – Abnormal Behaviour EP [Free Download]

Syk2ne delivers a nice free release with his Abnormal Behaviour EP showcasing two slices of filthy hardstep. Cinematic soundscapes combine with tearing basslines and face-melting drum lines to great effect. Fans of the breakcore/metal tinged end of D&B should definitely give this a listen. Check out the tunes below and grab yourself a free download from Bandcamp.

Evol Intent & Ewun – 8 Bit Bitch [Free Download]

Evol Intent continue their excellent run of free “throwback Thursday” giveaways with a remaster of Ewun collab 8 Bit Bitch. While the Spor remix (which featured on the Era Of Diversion LP) added a certain amount of extra production quality and some rather tastier bass, the original still has plenty of glitchy charm eight years on from it’s original release on Evol Intent Recordings. Check it out and grab a free download below!

Evol Intent – Suicide [Free Download!]

Originally released back in 2005 of the Guerilla Warfare compilation on Renegade Hardware, today’s freebie is a nice little remaster of Evol Intent’s classic darkstep belter Suicide. Tough amens, vicious bass stabs, a healthy dose of glitch and a nicely acid-tinged lead combine to give this tune every bit as much edge as it had eight years ago. Check it out and grab yourself a free download below!

Donny & Unknown Error – Songs From The Living Dead [Barcode]

The Barcode camp deliver a characteristically stomping 12″ from Donny and Unknown Error! First up South African hardstep veterans turn in a seriously rough and tough remix mashing up Donny’s The Forgotten and Symptomless Coma. The drop on this one is vicious!

Over on the flip Donny steps up for remix duties on Unknown Error’s War Games, stripping back the hammering drum lines to let the grimey, warped bass breath, and chucking in some chunky distorted amens for good measure.

Grab these tracks on strictly limited 12″ vinyl or digital, out now!
