Nymfo – Brain Feeder EP [Commercial Suicide]

Nymfo returns to Commercial Suicide for a tasty new EP featuring four chunky slabs of D&B. Brain Feeder and BTK collab Shelter provide the dancefloor weapons while Planetarium and Shivers explore deeper territory, with lush synths on the former and deep bass and intricate percussion on the latter.

To quote the ever droll label press release, ‘Here we have you the next instalment of the “Nymfo releases music on Commercial Suicide” story. Gather around and rejoice this occasion.’ Rejoice indeed! Check out the clips below and hit up the Commercial Suicide bandcamp to get this right now!

Ten [Spearhead Records]

BCee’s Spearhead imprint celebrate a decade in the game with a massive new compilation celebrating new sounds alongside the best in the back catalogue. Disc 2’s Future Sounds include a lush, summery VIP of Technicolour’s Centrifuge, top liquid rollers from Villem & McLeod and LSB and plenty more besides. Without bothering to describe every track, suffice to say they’re all well worth a listen.

As if that wasn’t enough, Disc 1 features 12 of the best from the back catalogue remastered specially for this release. Legendary tracks such as Netsky’s I Refuse, BCee & S.P.Y’s Is There Anybody Out There? and Redeyes’ Luv & Haight are among a tremendous selection of the label’s best and brightest rollers. Personally I don’t understand why Captured In Time wasn’t in there, but everyone must have their own personal favourites that didn’t make the cut.

Ridiculously enough you can cop this tremendous selection on double vinyl and CD for the incredibly reasonable price of £20 from the Spearhead Store, or you can pick up the 3CD set (including a mix from BCee) alone for a tenner. If you’re into your liquid this is the steal of the century – go grab a copy while you still can!

Mikal – Where They At [Metalheadz]

Mikal’s latest EP for the mighty Metalheadz sees the producer taking a slightly different direction compared to some of the more straightforward techstep we’ve heard from him in the past. Where They At explores tight, percussive minimalism over deep, throbbing sub, while Nymfo collab The Chosen swaps the ever shifting beats for a steadier groove which once again holds back from the aggressive stance both producers are sometimes known for.

Last but not least, Control of the People sees Mikal teaming up with RIOT (the DJ from Portugese Kuduro/Breaks outfit Buraka Som Sistema) for an odd but very enjoyable fusion of tech D&B and the samba-esque sound Buraka have been plying for some years. Swung beats and a hint of funk sit well with growling basslines and tight snares, and the whole composition sounds very fresh. Check out the clips below and hit up the ‘headz store to preorder the EP now ahead of it’s Jan 19th release.

Maduk & Nymfo – Motions EP [Fokuz Recordings]

Maduk & Nymfo’s occasional collaborations are always a treat, as anyone who checked out last year’s 12″ for Allsorts will know. Their latest work touches down on Fokuz later this month and features three top notch emotive rollers, all with one eye on the melody and the other on the dancefloor. Deep, hypnotic euphoria is the order of the day on Motions, with similar vibes on the nicely guitar embellished strains of Approaching Me.

Tatta Ganja meanwhile proves the surprise of the bunch, bringing together garagey stabs and dub horns with a jungle-tinged break for a skanking slice of dubwize business. Anyone looking for something a little less aggressive but still with plenty of bounce should look no further! Check out the clips below and watch out for this dropping on vinyl and digital from October 27th.

Pennygiles – Stories Untold Remixes [IM:Ltd]

IM:Ltd’s latest release sees Pennygiles’ Stories Untold getting the remix treatment no less than three times. Nymfo turns in a dank dancefloor refix which keeps the soul of the tune but bolsters it with a tough break and a hefty wall of sub bass, while the flipside of the 12″ sees Pennygiles teaming up with French liquid producer Redeyes for a typically deep and satisfying roller.

Out into the digital extras, Diffrent Music’s Arkaik twists up Stories Untold into a darker and altogether more angular form, while Robustus turns drops things down even deeper with a half-time rework and some nice glitchy touches. Great work as ever from the IM:Ltd camp – check out the clips below and grab this on vinyl and digital now.

Sun & Bass – 10 Years Selection

Sun & Bass continue their tradition from last year and release another stellar compilation featuring cuts from the festival’s regular DJs, with a host of big names on board. The first half of the compilation leans heavily in the deep liquid direction, with a collection of rollers and steppers from Triad, Fracture & Mark System, Seba, Alite & Arp XP and more. Tokyo Prose steal the show for me with the sublime, twinkling piano and crisp breaks of Goodbye Hands…truly a tune you could lose yourself in.

The second half of the selection sees the heat turned up with harder beats from Klute, Chris SU and Nymfo, Dom & Roland and more. Ulterior Motive turn in a strong, squelchy stepper with Fragola Invisible and Audio Habitat collaborates with Mad Vibes for a good old fashioned dirty roller. The LP closes up with a few more soulful numbers from dBridge, Code 3 and Zero T for good measure.

Check out all the beats below and watch out for the release dropping on digital from December 16th. Don’t forget you can also pick up the sublime Calibre/Paradox remix 12″ from Surus now!

DNB Dojo Mix Series 02: Enorme

MixSeries02Enorme_new_bw

DJ Enorme steps up to deliver the second episode of our exclusive mix series! Since moving to The Netherlands, Enorme now represents the deeper side of Techstep, holding down a residency at Drum Addict in Amsterdam and presenting the Blackdub podcast with regular mixes from upcoming and established artists alike.
