Our latest exclusive comes from Ipswich producer Conrad Subs as he lands on Default Recordings with a dark and dangerous new tune, Hatred. Big sub hits, tight drum programming and plenty of scuzzy low end give this one maximum impact! Look for the release dropping Nov 6th…

Kid Lib – Blue Dreamers [Foxy Jangle]
Irish tastemakers Rua Sound launch a new sub imprint this month in the form of Foxy Jangle; having focused on the intersection between grime, jungle, d&b and other bass music for the main label, the new outlet will focus entirely on more conventional jungle releases. They couldn’t have picked a better artist to kick-start the label either – Green Bay Wax boss and all round junglist badman Kid Lib is at the controls for the first release, and as you’d expect it is straight fiya!
A-side Blue Dreamers goes in deep with lush pad atmospheres and trippy samples on the intro, lulling you into a false sense of security before the breaks crash into the mix. When the drums come they come hard, replete with tasty edits and classic snare rolls. Flipside That Special Way follows a similar template, with pitched vocals on the intro taking us back to the spirit of the mid 90s ready for another helter skelter selection of kicks and snares.
As with much of the jungle-revival sound there’s nothing especially innovative going on here, but as love-letters to a largely bygone sound go it doesn’t get much more finely engineered than this. Foxy! Check out the clips below and hit up the Rua Sound Bandcamp to pre-order now; vinyl and digital drop Oct 27th.
Premiere: Sicknote, Dissect & Jay Bionic – Bluffing
Part three of Paws Recordings’ excellent trio of vinyl exclusive white label releases is almost upon us and we’re proud to present the exclusive on B-side Bluffing! Featuring more of the old school hip-hop sampling that has characterised previous tracks like Nowadays, this one is an retro roller with a playful bassline harking back to the heyday of DJ Zinc and the like. Watch the Paws Bandcamp for pre-order details soon; the vinyl drops Oct 27th.
Premiere: Lizard – Stabbing
Another wicked slice of raved up jungle from The Dreamers today as we present the exclusive on Lizard – Stabbing. Taken from the imprint’s brand new VA compilation Dream Cycle Vol. 1, the track lives up to it’s name with vintage piano stabs and razor sharp chopped breaks from some proper old school vibes. Look out for the LP dropping tomorrow at all the usual digital outlets.
Spirit – Think / Bounty Killer [Inneractive]
A fresh release from the legendary Spirit is nearly always a treat and the latest single for his own Inneractive imprint proves to be exactly that. As with many Spirit compositions Think carries more than a little of the old school flavour, with big floaty pads, analogue reverb and crunchy breaks a-plenty; energetic, but dubbed out and spacey at the same time.
Over on the flip Bounty Killer once again invokes the aesthetic of days gone by, but this time swapping the calmer elements of the A-side for a vintage-style jump-up workout based around hard hitting breaks and an infectious bass hook. This one will take you straight back to the late 90s and a sold-out sweatbox rave! Check out the clips below and hit up Bandcamp to grab it on vinyl or digital right now.
Premiere: Enjoy – Contours
Today’s exclusive comes from one of favourite labels as Neve’s The Dreamers gears up to release a summery VA compilation entitled Dream Cycle. Enjoy brings the classic jungle vibes on Contours, blending jazz influences, twinkling melodies and chunky chopped up breaks for a wicked slice of rave euphoria. Yes yes! Look for this dropping August 11th at all the usual digital outlets.
Premiere: Sicknote, Dissect & Jay Bionic – Nowadays
Paws Recordings return with the second of their vinyl exclusive white label releases and we’ve got the exclusive on A-side Nowadays! Taking a leaf from Paradox’s book, this is a stripped back slice of b-boy breakbeat business with an emphasis on crispy drums and a tasty hip-hop style sample hook to give the tune it’s name. Old school vibes! Hit up the Paws Bandcamp to get your mits on this one; the vinyl drops May 26th.
Rognvald – R.O.G.N.V.A.L.D [Love Love]
Love Love Records are back with a seriously tasty jungle EP from Richard Wilson under new alias Rognvald. Best known for his eclectic acid output as Beatwife, Wilson’s latest sees him chopping the breaks and drawing on influences from classic jungle, drumfunk and breakcore for a dark and chaotic selection of tracks.
From the outset it’s obvious that any concerns about DJ friendliness or adherence to the common confines of electronica have been chucked straight out of the window in favour of the open ended progressions and freeform danger that makes modern jungle and ‘core so enjoyable. Opener R.O.G.N.V.A.L.D wastes no time in building terrifying atmospheres amid a whirlwind assault of beats, segueing effortlessly into a haunting beatless bridge and back out into more of those crunchy drum chops. Next up, Whistle Posse lightens the mood with a distinctly tongue in cheek ode to classic nonsense jungle; wobbled up bass, helter skelter snares and of course, whistle samples a-plenty!
Out into the second half of the EP, Lowcol Junglist employs spacey pad sounds and distant ragga vocals for a tripped out ride as the beats crash down around the listener’s ears. Once again the pace is breakneck and all the tools in the breakbeat arsenal have been employed with just the right balance of precision editing and low-fi scuzz; mid 90s vibes updated for 2017. Last but by no means least, Asbiorn voyages into intricate drumfunk territory with the beats coming up a little cleaner and crispier. Replete with satisfying drum edits and haunting samples, this one is truly hypnotic.
Love Love are on fine form once again with possibly their best jungle release yet! Check out the clips below and hit up the label Bandcamp page to grab the EP on vinyl or digital now.
Premiere: Brakken – Defiance One EP
We’ve got a bumper Premiere today as we present the first Soundcloud clips of the brand new EP from Brakken for Tech Itch Recordings! Currently shrouded in mystery all we know about Brakken so far is that he is a old warrior of the scene operating under a new identity; doubtless time will reveal the artist’s former aliases, but for now all we have is the beats.
Said beats are impressive indeed and fans of the dark-edged techstep sound will definitely find plenty to enjoy here; from the deep, rolling reese bass of Shadow Art through the industrial-tinged halftime of In My Room, out into the 90s style ‘headz-y vibes of Shaper Scratch and finishing up with moody stepper Let Go, this is clearly the work of an artist with deep roots in the scene and plenty of ideas to explore. Sick stuff!
The Defiance One EP is available to buy right now from the Tech Itch Recordings website where you can also find full previews of the EP via their new members area. Vinyl fans will also be pleased to know that the label are prepping a limited edition 12″ run for the EP; head over to Bandcamp to pre-order that (expected to ship around August 1st).
Andy Skopes – Who Are You [Inperspective]
Andy Skopes is a producer we’ve always rated really highly here at Dojo HQ, and one that sadly we don’t hear enough from! His latest work for Inperspective is the first solo outing this year, and very much feels like the spiritual successor to the excellent True Chord Redux from Utopia Music in 2013 (which incidentally we’re still rinsing hard…)
Combining old school breakbeat manipulations with shimmering atmospherics and cinematic sample snippets creates a fantastic duality between tough beats and softer musical backgrounds, both on the full frontal drum assault of Who Are You and B side Laterality. As is so often the case with Andy’s work, this is all in the drum programming and that craft has been lovingly honed to perfection. Check out the tracks below and hit up the Inperspective Bandcamp to grab the single on digital or 12″ picture disc right now.
