Another deep flex from Ortem on today’s exclusive as they gear up to drop a new EP from Spinnet. Normal Curve blends a variety of influences from the worlds of electro and IDM for a gloriously expansive journey through soaring leads and squelching synth bass, set to a backbone of ever-so-slightly glitchy D&B percussion. Wicked tune! Watch out for the release coming 2nd August exclusively on Bandcamp; other stores follow on the 16th.

Premiere: Subminimal – Disrupt
Icelandic producer Subminimal returns to Ortem this month with another top notch EP and we’re hyped to have the exclusive on Disrupt! Starting out with deep, trippy halftime vibes before progressing into hard amen chopping badness…wicked stuff. Look out for the EP coming March 15th at Bandcamp with all other stores following two weeks later.
Premiere: Subminimal – Konl
Percussive precision on today’s premiere as we present the first listen of Submiminal’s brand new track Konl! Taken from his forthcoming Polyphasic EP for experiment label Ortem, the track blends influences from dub techno into the 170 template, starting sparse and slowly building in a light layer of drumfunk influenced beats over the backbone of the track. Deep, dark and utterly hypnotic…look for this one coming Aug 3rd at Bandcamp with other stores following two weeks later.
Books – Ensō EP [Ortem]
Ortem have been really impressing us here at the Dojo since their first release landed in January and their latest EP is no exception. The label’s fourth release sees owner and previously sole producer Metro step aside to welcome the elusive Books to the catalogue, and the results are an absolute treat for fans of the deeper end of 170BPM music.
The EP’s style centres around halftime D&B but brings in influences from IDM and the leftfield electronic arena, with floaty pads and glitchy drums giving the tracks a distinct sound from the Clarity copycats churning out gloomy “dark” halftime.
The compositions are sparse but still detailed, with elements given plenty of space to breathe, and the results are soft and faintly hypnotic. Our favourite here at Dojo HQ has to be the calming microfunk-esque Pseudo with it’s perfect combo of percussion and ambience, but all four tracks are top notch. Check out the clips below and hit up the Ortem Bandcamp to grab a copy right now.
