Premiere: Treega – Nightcore
One of Milan’s most exciting producers returns to Neve’s The Dreamers imprint this month with a big new EP and we’ve got the exclusive on title track Nightcore. Bringing together euphoric synth lines, rapid-fire percussion and a frenetic energy. 25% footwork, 25% jungle, 25% bass, 25% rave…100% banger! Look for the Nightcore EP at all good digital stores from October 23rd.
Premiere: Kantyze – The Blastmaster
Quentin Hiatus’s FLD imprint continue their relentless schedule of forward-thinking future music with a fresh new album from French duo Kantyze. The Mutation LP features some serious riddims so naturally we jumped at the chance to share the premiere of one of them, and The Blastmaster is one frenetic riddim indeed. Rapid-fire breakbeats set to a lilting, swung bassline and punctuated by raved-up synth melodies and staccato vocal hits make for a relentlessly energetic track; sick vibes! Check it out and look for the full album dropping October 16th.
Premiere: Lizard – Stabbing
Another wicked slice of raved up jungle from The Dreamers today as we present the exclusive on Lizard – Stabbing. Taken from the imprint’s brand new VA compilation Dream Cycle Vol. 1, the track lives up to it’s name with vintage piano stabs and razor sharp chopped breaks from some proper old school vibes. Look out for the LP dropping tomorrow at all the usual digital outlets.
Soul Intent’s 90s Jungle Classics
Soul Intent’s latest sublabel for Lossless Music, Dope Plates, keeps things retro with three new slices of old school-tinged breakbeat jungle goodness. To celebrate the label’s launch, we asked Alex to give us his Top 5 90s Jungle classics. Serious selections! Read on for Alex’s thoughts on each track…
Fracture – Hype Tracks EP [Exit]
After the success of his much lauded Loving Touch EP Fracture returns to Exit with another top selection of raved up riddims which showcase his knack for melding dancefloor chops with intriguing stylistic experiments and varied the results are too.
Makin’ Hype Tracks kicks things off with another ravey smasher in the vein of Fracture’s excellent remix of DJ Monita’s Luv Ta Luv Ya, blending footwork influences with crisp jungle breaks and a tint of the old school. This one will absolutely be doing the damage in the clubs! Black Pearl immediately flips the script, keeping the crunchy jungle-style breaks but setting them to a more liquid-y set of pads and vocal cuts for a blend of the frantic and the serene.
The appropriately titled Acid Claps sees Teklife footwork originators Taso & Spinn on board for a track that lives up to it’s name with squelchy acid lines and tons of 808 clap action. Wonky business! Last up, I Just brings things full circle with another blend of breakneck syncopations and bassweight.
Personally I can’t get enough of Fracture’s work and that of similar producers like Moresounds and Fixate; this blend of the old and the new is absolutely infectious, and long may it last! Check out the clips below and hit up the Exit Store right now to grab a copy on vinyl or digital. Hype Hype!
Dojo Damager: Krakota – Crash Pads
This week’s Dojo Damager comes courtesy of Hospital Records and Krakota. Krakota’s Citadels EP features four varied new tracks, the gnarliest (and arguably best) of which is the raved up smasher that is Crash Pads.
From the wonky old school chords of the intro to the hard snares and snarling bass distortions, this track is 110% hype from start to finish and a certified dancefloor weapon! Serious business; check out the clip below and hit up the Hospital Store to grab a copy on vinyl or digital right now.
Brandon Miles & Tricky Pat – Crazy Pills EP [Faded Music]
US duo Brandon Miles & Tricky Pat bring their experimental stylings to Faded Music with a four track EP of genre-bending 85/170BPM business. Hints of IDM, hip-hop, jungle, juke and a general taste for all things ravey have been chucked into the sonic blender and the results are chaotic, unpredictable and generally really good fun.
Particular highlights come on the sludged-out, crunked up, gurn-inducingly bassy halftime hip-hop of Get Em’ and the irresistibly hyperactive rave-up of Memory Shot. Check out the clips below and grab the release from your favourite digital store right now!
Dexta – Minirave / The Bunker [None60]
Dexta returns to None60 with two cracking new beats. Minirave lives up to it’s name, harnessing the sounds of old school hardcore and jungle for a chopped up raved out banger.
The Bunker sees Dexta teaming up with Gaunt for another track with more than a nod to the old school. Shadow Boxing-style basslines and junglist break chops meld with Dexta’s signature production for a nice groove, and a perfect complement to the more up front A side.
As usual you’ll be able to find this on the None60 bandcamp and all the usual digital stores; watch for the release from June 22nd.
Fade – Acid Trip / Get Rowdy [Diffrent Music]
If the psychedelic artwork and track names haven’t already given you the hint, let us set this one straight for you; Fade is getting a bit ravey on his latest work for Dexta’s ever impressive Diffrent imprint.
Acid Trip leads with classic rave synths on the intro before pounding bass stabs slam down around the heavy hitting half-time rhythm. Get Rowdy meanwhile lulls you into a false sense of security with lush IDM-esque sounds before the frenetic percussion and chipmunk-pitched vocal refrain drop in to hype the track up. Cracking!
Check out the clips below and hit up the Diffrent bandcamp to grab this right now.
