Seba & Method One Singles

When you’re presented with two dope new singles from the same production duo within a week of one another, clearly there’s only one legitimate response; review double feature!

Everyone’s favourite Swedish D&B producer Seba has teamed up with stateside experimentalist Method One once again and they’ve crafted some pretty groovy tracks. Dawn Patrol leads their 12″ for Commercial Suicide, featuring customarily floaty Seba pad work and crispy breaks a plenty, while Eidolon takes things in a heavier direction with more crunchy breaks and a funky bass hook. Noice!

Not content with a more than capable outing on Klute’s label, the boys have also signed a pair of moodier tracks to Samurai Music, featuring more polished drum work, deep sub and creepy synth leads; atmospheric business. Silicon Nature edges out as the Dojo fave on this one, but both tracks are top notch as you’d expect from producers with this much experience.

Personally we’re hoping to hear more from Seba & Method One in the not too distant future! Hit up the Commercial Suicide and Samurai stores respectively to grab these on vinyl or digital right now.

DNB Dojo Mix Series 28: Kush T

MixSeries28_KushT

We’ve been keeping a close eye on Kush T since we first came across him via releases for Terabyte and Avantgarde, and we’re big fans of his grimey, minimalist style of D&B. With another release just out on Counterpoint Recordings, we jumped at the chance to get the man on board the Dojo Mix Series!

Pete has delivered a punchy 30 minute selection of rolling D&B with a few cheeky dubplate exclusives and a fine selection featuring the likes of Total Science, Break, Amoss and plenty more. Check it out below and hit up the Counterpoint Bandcamp to grab his Quiet Minds EP right now!

AudioSketch – Sound Design LP [Soul Trader]

Soul Trader are upping their game in a big way with their latest project, presenting their first solo artist LP after a fine run of single and EP releases, and they’re going back to the artist behind their first two releases: AudioSketch.

AudioSketch has really outdone himself on this project, serving up twelve wicked originals and three cracking remixes for an album of crisply produced rollers with an ear for both melody and a solid dancefloor bassline. Introspective deep liquid this is not, but neither is it a soulless collection of “bangers”, as the tracks tread that line between soul and heft with aplomb.

In terms of guests the Soul Trader team have brought quite the crew to the table; label owner Surplus is on hand, as are Oktiv, HLZ and Salaryman, while guest vocals come from Hannah Eve and Identified. Remix-wise the invitations are equally top-drawer, with Villem & McLeod, BCee and Random Movement turning in wicked takes on some of the album tracks.

Overall while this might not be pushing any envelopes in terms of genre innovation, the match of musicality, bassweight and production sheen is just impossible to argue with, and the tracks are more than memorable enough to stand the test of time. Check out the clips below and hit up Beatport to grab the whole LP right now.

DNB Dojo Mix Series 27: Marcus Tee

MixSeries27_MarcusTee

Liquid rollers all the way on the latest instalment of the Dojo Mix Series! Marcus Tee delivers the goods, serving up a label showcase mix featuring nothing but cuts from the Bay 6 Recordings catalogue, and the result is an hour of deep, melodic, emotional, beautiful 170BPM music. Can’t argue with that!

Time for another exclusive DNB Dojo Premiere and this time it comes from AudioSketchRandom Movement and Soul Trader Records!

Soul Trader continue their impressive run of releases with the debut LP from up and coming producer AudioSketch. One of the album’s best cuts comes in the form of Come For Me and Random Movement has been recruited to refix the original, turning in a sublime dancefloor roller with soul and bass heft in equal measure. Wicked stuff!

BCee & Saxxon – Blue Harbour EP [Soul Trader]

We love a good roller here at DNB Dojo; sometimes music doesn’t need to be genre-bending or revolutionary to bring a massive smile to your face, and the latest creations from BCee & Saxxon for Soul Trader Records hit that spot pretty perfectly.

BCee opens things up with the energetic, jazzy vibes of Only You before flipping things around with the tough breaks and vocal emphasis of Understanding. Not to be outdone, Saxxon dishes up a classic Liquid V style roller on Blue Harbour; this one is pure sunshine designed to wash away the winter blues. Last but not least the pair join forces with Soul Trader boss Surplus for the bouncy Tripped Up; that garage-style bassline really hits the spot!

Super smooth liquid once again from the Soul Trader crew. Look out for this on vinyl and digital from Jan 15th.

Composite – Nesh EP [Context Audio]

Those who keep their finger on the pulse of the D&B scene in the south of England should already be aware of Context Audio, but for anyone who missed their inception announcements they’re a new digital imprint based in Portsmouth. In their own words, they are “a label focused on only serving up exceptional high grade drums. We like it deep and rolling, and we hope you do too”. Sounds good to us here at Dojo HQ!

Sounding even better than the press sound-bites are the clips for their debut release from Composite. The EP serves up three distinct tracks held together by fantastic percussion – those brags about high grade drums seem well founded from this outting at least.

The grittier vibes of opener Nesh and the softer liquid strains of Know Yourself are both solid tracks but for us the real star of this show is the crazy 5/4 drumfunk of Dispersion. Channelling the influence of Photek from tracks like Ni Ten Ichi Ryu into an utterly beautiful, confoundingly rhythmic and deeply unusual composition, this is one of the freshest tunes we’ve heard from a new label in some time.

The EP is due for release Jan 28th so keep your eyes on the Context Facebook feed for more details, and if you happen to be in the Portsmouth area on Feb 5th get yourself along to their label launch party.
