XCUZMe – From The Ashes / Turin Jazz [Bay 6 Recordings]

XCUZMe steps up with the latest for Bay 6 Recordings, and true to the label’s aesthetic it’s smooth liquid vibes all the way. Despite the melancholy title lead track From The Ashes feels entirely uplifting, buoyed along by bright piano, playful bleepy melodies and warm sub.

Over on the flip we get an ode to Tomasso XCUZMe’s home town of Turin, with the cheery tones of the A side replaced by a fiercer and more dancefloor focussed vibe. The floaty pads prevent things from sounding too ominous, leading to a solid subby rollout. Tasty! Check out the clips below and hit up your favourite digital store to grab the single now.

Dan Guidance – Dub Bomb [Anamorphic Recordings]

After quite a period of preparation since we first learned of Anamorphic in Feb this year, the new Belfast-based label is ready to unleash their first release from Dan Guidance, and it’s definitely been worth the wait. The appropriately named Dub Bomb leads the charge with a nice rolling skank, while Up In The Air brings together lush melodic elements with a healthy bassline for a slice of liquid that’s still more than capable for the dancefloor.

Perhaps predictably though the star of the show here is Zero T’s slamming remix of Dub Bomb.  The kicks and snares have been sharpened up considerably and the bassline carries some seriously tasty extra scuzz, making this one a sure fire weapon for smashing up the dance. Noice! Check out the clips below and look for this on digital and vinyl from August 26th.

Future Ghost & Tim Reaper – Back To Basics [Guangzhou Underground]

Guangzhou Underground impressed us a few months ago with a ruffneck jungle remix from Tim Reaper and their latest release sees Tim back in action going head to head with Future Ghost.

The aforementioned Ghost provides the first two tracks, serving up a smooth, vibesy hip-hop-infused roller with an infectious groove on 139 and Lennox before heading for more melancholy territory on the deep and thoughtful Truant Muse.

Reaper lives up to his usual stylings in the back end of the EP, bringing junglist breaks and plenty of lush soundscapes on 220 to 319. If you’re looking for a smooth ride the original mix might float your boat, but for us it’s all about the frantic break chopping of the chaotic VIP. Check out the clips below and hit up Beatport to snag the tracks right now.

Calibre – Fourfit EP 4 [Soul:R]

The fourth in Soul:R’s excellent Fourfit EP series comes from the mighty Calibre, and he brings a fine selection of dancefloor oriented rollers that lean towards the darker end of his sound. Bogeyman Bullshit leads the charge with a simple but effective combo of rolling breaks and wobbly bass, in that classic stripped-back style that the maestro does so well. Next up, Marcus Intalex & Bricktop get in on the action, serving up a beautiful moody roller in the form of Smother.

Multitasking ups the menace level with a healthy layer of distortion on the bassline and a more angular break. Dream of You serves up the EP’s surprise track, and possibly its best, a playful, dubbed out slice of halftime with hordes of reverb drenched character and sonic detail. Tasty stuff! Check out the clips below and hit up the Soul:R Bandcamp to grab it on vinyl or digital now.

A Sides & Makoto – Aquarian Dreams [Eastern Elements]

London meets Tokyo as A Sides & Makoto team up for an LP several years in the making and packed with rollers. The work here is definitely more D&B traditionalism than out there experimentations but it’s plenty enjoyable if not the most innovative record you’ll hear this year.

Here at the Dojo we found the album at its strongest on the lighter, more melodic tracks, particularly the vocal collabs with Riya and Robert Manos. Makoto’s expertise at crafting dancefloor liquid rollers shines through wonderfully here, with warm bass, tight breaks and uplifting melodies a-plenty. Darker tracks such as Breathe prove tough and relentless but ultimately less interesting than the wealth of melodic tracks.

The LP holds a couple of surprises in the form of the appropriately titled (and supremely funky) Street Level Funk and the audacious, almost cabaret style leads of Hurt My Soul, and there’s a tasty little remix from DJ Marky on the end for good measure. If you’re looking for dancefloor D&B with plenty of melody you could do a lot worse than Aquarian Dreams; check out the clips below and hit up your favourite store to grab a copy now!

Technimatic – Flashbulb EP [Shogun Audio]

Technimatic return to Shogun Audio for their first release since last year’s debut LP Desire Paths. As you’d expect, it’s crisp, melodic liquid business from start to finish, and the boys manage to keep it warm and summery without succumbing to anything too cheesy.

Highlights come on the bouncy halftime of title track Flashbulb (more liquid producers should really explore this idea…) and the soft but insistent Remember You, with Secret Smile and Dirty Hands proving capable rollers to boot. Check out the clips below and hit up the Shogun Store to grab yourself a copy right now.

Cool Hand Flex – Burn It Up [Default Recordings]

The latest from Default Recordings sees a true Junglist soldier returning to the label’s output. Cool Hand Flex has a discography stretching back to 1991 and he’s picked up some knowledge along the way, to say the least.

Burn It Up and Thru The Storm both carry an old school production style, bringing to mind old Full Cycle records and early Metalheadz. Aptly chosen samples, simple but effective basslines and chunky breaks are the order of the day here, and the results are pretty tasty. Check out the clips below and look for this at digital stores from July 13th.

Break – Simpler Times LP Sampler [Symmetry Recordings]

The legendary Break gives us the first taste of his forthcoming third album Simpler Times with a two track sampler. The LP’s title track sees Kyo on vocal duties for a quality chunky roller with that unmistakeable Break balance of bass weight and soul. There’s nothing particularly surprising in the composition but the balance of the track is just too perfect not to enjoy, from the crisp breaks to the warm bass and up to the melodic flourishes sprinkled over the top.

Over on the flip we’re treated to a sampler exclusive tech roller in the form of Top Shooter. Apparently extensively road-tested by Break over the past few months, this one will certainly do the damage on the dancefloor. Check out the clips below and hit up the Symmetry store to grab this one now; digital is already out, with vinyl to follow in two weeks.

Kasra & Enei – Inside The Box [Critical Music]

Critical’s latest sees label boss Kasra teaming up with Russian production stalwart Enei for an EP of varied tracks tied together by that heavyweight Critical sound. Kicking off with the stomping 85BPM hip-hop of Inside The Box, seguing into minimal halftime on Words and then heading for rolling territory on the excellent DRS-vocaled Overthinking, they clearly didn’t want this EP to fall into any obvious sub-genre pigeon-holes.

Out into the digital exclusives we’re treated to more dark minimalism on Arcana followed by a straight up tech thumper on Greed, which is sure to be smashing up the dance over the coming weeks. Another great release from one of the most influential labels in the scene – hit up the Critical store to grab this on vinyl and digital right now.
