BCee & Bladerunner – Moonstruck / Crash [Celsius Recordings]

BCee & Bladerunner team up on a pair of deep liquid rollers for Fokuz sub label Celsius Recordings. Combining BCee’s ear for melodic flourishes and Blade Runner’s jungle tinged bass and breaks, the two tunes tread a nice line between dancefloor business and musicality.

Moonstruck makes good use of a wobbly bassline and a tight break under soft strings and pads to create an atmosphere that is energetic but slightly melancholy. Crash heads for jazzier territory with upbeat piano and saxophone over throbbing bass tones and another great rolling break; summer business on this one. Escapism LP [Liquicity Records]

Those of you with their fingers on the pulse of the liquid scene might have already heard this one when it dropped back in February but it only landed in our inbox recently. Still, the tunes on show proved too good not to talk about! Liquicity Records proudly present to us their Escapism LP featuring 14 tracks of smooth, melodic drum & bass from producers big and small across the liquid spectrum.

The tracks are all top quality so it’s pretty tough to pick out favourites but the effortless opener from Bachelors of Science certainly proves a highlight of the LP. Elsewhere the soft, twinkling lead of Maduk’s Change and the unconventional electric guitar work of Dan Dakota’s appropriately titled Telecaster both stand out, while BCee’s The Falls takes us to deeper territory with style.

Check out all the tracks below and pick up the album on vinyl, CD or digital now!

Ower & Identified – I Should Have Let Go [Dark Manoeuvres]

Ower teams up with Identified on London label Dark Manoeuvres’ 6th single to kick in a deep, soulful roller characterised by soft female vocals and warm strings. On the B side Running To The Void sees Ower go it alone on a haunting, minimal number which combines dark, faintly robotic bass with some excellent atmospherics and lead flourishes drenched in reverb.

Check out the clips below and watch out for this one dropping Feb 24th from all good digital outlets.

Break – Music Is Better [Symmetry]

DIGITAL

Hot on the heels of the mighty Steam Train Break drops another essential 12″ on Symmetry. Music Is Better on the A-side hits up that classic Break sweet-spot between tech and liquid that we’ve seen him leverage so well over the years on tracks like Love So True, Slow Down and Winter Sun. Jazzy piano and vocals on the intro give way to a meaty bass drop to give the tune equal parts summer vibes and edge. Liquid with teeth!

Backing things up on the flip the familiar team of Fields, Hydro, Mako & Villem give us Celestine. Crisp drums and soft synths on the intro once again give away to a tasty bassline, though the character is definitely in the infectious percussion rather than the low end, and the little flourishes over the top ice the proverbial cake in style. Look out for these two from August 5th on vinyl and digital!

Lenzman – Empty Promise [Metalheadz]

Metalheadz bring us another must have 12″ from Lenzman! A side Empty Promise covers all the bases nicely; rolling breakbeats, soft pads, soulful vocals and just enough grime in the bassline to give the tune some teeth. Then over on the flip Makoto gives Broken Dreams the remix treatment, making the song his own while retaining the trademark vocal that made the original such a big hit on release.

As if all of that wasn’t enough, the ‘headz camp are also giving away a nice little freebie in the form of Subwave’s remix of Lenzman & Riya’s Open Page. Grab yourself a copy here and look out for the Empty Promise 12″ dropping on April 29th.
