Stealth & Stylus – Homage (Back To You) [ProgRAM]

Stealth’s latest single for RAM sister-label ProgRAM comes hot and heavy! Stylus collab Homage (Back To You) combines hefty bass and rolling breaks with an infectious vocal sample that the attentive among you may well recognise from old Evol Intent favourite The Ladies.

Over on the flip Smash It amps things up even further with an absolute savage selection of bass groans set to a stomping kick/snare riddim. Subtlety is not on offer here, but if you want a big bad belter then look no further! Check out the clips below and grab this on vinyl and digital from your favourite outlet.

Gridlok & Dieselboy – MDMX [Project 51]

When two legends of the scene come together in the studio it tends to lead to something special, and MDMX is no exception; Gridlok and Dieselboy combine their fearsome energies on a massive tech roller which might not win any points for originality but wins all the points for dancefloor destruction. Over on the flip Gridlok gets another collab on with Jamal, keeping his usual twisted bassline stylings but opting for a stomping, swung beat rather than the usual full tilt rolling break.

No word yet on release, check out the clips below and watch the respective Facebook pages for more details…

Q&A – Evol Intent

Recent times have been busy for Evol Intent; between their solo aliases, touring, giving away tasty freebies and some big collabs with the likes of Noisia, it’s been a great year for the stateside trio. We thought it was high time for a chat, and Gigantor kindly agreed! Read on for his thoughts on free music, the “EDM” bubble and more.

Lockjaw – Idol / Cold In The Middle [Lifestyle Recordings]

Lockjaw continues his run of excellent releases with another single for London-based Lifestyle Recordings. Idol ramps up the atmosphere on the intro before dropping into a hefty beat punctuated by soft, ethereal vocals and eerie synth screams; the duality of the fearsome beat and the soft pads gives the tune a really interesting energy, and little touches like the guitar in the second half of the tune really give this one character.

Cold In The Middle hits down heavy once again with a scattershot drum workout set to deep, ominous bass tones. Once again melodic elements are put to great use on the intro and breakdown, providing a contrast before the meatier elements steal the show. This one’s out now exclusively at Juno with full release to follow from August 4th. Check out the clips below and grab it at your leisure.

Break & Fields – Duck For Cover / Reel Funk [Symmetry]

Symmetry Recordings return with a fresh double A side from label regulars Break and Fields. Break goes in on the A side with the rolling charms of Duck For Cover, focusing on groove over the hyperactivity that much of modern Techstep embraces. Hypnotic vibes and tons of atmosphere.

Over on the flip Fields presents his first solo outing for the label with an unusual beat structure, chunky bass textures and tons of little details sprinkled into the mix. This one’s all in the percussion, with bongos punctuating a shuffling, cymbal heavy drum workout.

Bone – Unspeakable EP [Authentic Music]

Estonian producer Bone returns to Authentic Music with a second EP following up last year’s Structure EP. The titular Unspeakable shows Bone’s varied sensibilities, with lush atmospherics overlaying darker bass tones and solid beats. Moral fibre collab Crossbite heads for darker territory, with ominous pads characterising the intro before a drop into moving basslines and intricate rolling drums.

The Block makes great use of some unusual percussion to create a really angular, robotic groove, keeping the atmosphere and the growling bass nicely balanced in the process. Last up comes Raspy, a skittering hi-hat fuelled head-knodder with a hint of trap and an infectious vibe. Check out the clips below and head to Beatport to grab a copy of the EP, out now!

Cooh, WPL & Corrupted Minds – Orcrux / Brutal Truth [Big Riddim]

Big Riddim keep things hard and nasty on their latest release featuring two slammers from Therapy Sessions alumni Cooh, WPL and Corrupted Minds. Orcrux opens the salvo with a relentless technoid rhythm, the onslaught of kicks and bass punctuated with infectious, a hypnotic synth lead and judicious use of amen breaks.

Over on the flip Brutal Truth gets a bit smashier, with an appropriately brutal kick snare drum line repeatedly punching for the gut against a landscape of distortion and general carnage. Check out the clips below and grab this one on vinyl or digital now.

Mako – The Truthseekers EP [Metalheadz]

As if his recent output for Dispatch and Warm Comms wasn’t enough, we’ve also recently been treated to a Mako EP for the mighty Metalheadz on their XX series. The three tracks see him getting together in the studio with others for three collabs of varying persuasions, the first of which features Detail on a skittering, dubbed out half-stepper with some superb percussion.

Next up comes The Gully, a stripped back roller produced by Mako & Sine. All brooding atmosphere and ominous intent on the intro, once the tune drops it has a fearsome roll to it and some tasty bass growls to boot. Last but by no means least, Throwing Snow gets in on the action for Ju Ken, an interesting hybrid of breakbeat, UK Funky and D&B. The groove is unusual in it’s style but achieves a fantastic level of energy and insistence with the kicks and claps raining down for maximum effect.

The ever hard working Mako has also put together a promo mix to celebrate the EPs release, which you can check out below. Head to your favourite store to grab this one on vinyl or digital now, and watch out for plenty more from Mako in the future.

Hybris – Timeloop [Invisible]

Hybris gives us the first glimpse of his forthcoming album for Noisia’s Invisible imprint, due to drop in September. Timeloop features lush atmospheres on the intro leading up to a savage tech-funk drop; the main verse features some ultra-detailed percussion work too, and the precision of the whole thing is impressive to say the least.

Over on the flip Mind Grind opens up with eerie looped samples, gradually giving way to a menacing rising bassline which drops into a robotic drumstep riddim that should get your head nodding!

As if that wasn’t enough, Hybris and Invisible are giving away a free download to promote the release in the form of eWaste. Bringing together savage neurofunk bass, sci-fi soundscapes and a heavy hitting scattershot drum pattern, this one should shake things up on the dancefloor. Head over to the Invisible Soundcloud to grab a copy and watch out for the Timeloop single dropping July 14th at all good stores.
