In The Mix…toastercookie

Seattle’s toastercookie drops a huge selection of dancefloor oriented D&B to celebrate his appearance at the city’s Bottom Heavy monthly club night. With cuts from the likes of Break, Enei, Calyx & Teebee, Logistics, Netsky, Noisia & Phace all featuring, the mix moves effortlessly through tech and liquid styles with an emphasis on rolling beats and upbeat vibes. Check it out and grab a free download below.

Thrashpilot – Firewalker / Calisthenics [Killscreen]

After a lengthy absence from the scene Thrashpilot returns with a new single on a new label, and hits home with some genuinely innovative beats. Firewalker gets straight down to business with some great synth work, warm techy bass and an insistent hat-led half-step beat. Imagine 2005-era Boxcutter making D&B and you’re somewhere close.

Over on the flip Calisthenics takes things up to full roll but keeps the beat angular with kicks and distorted snares dropping left right and centre. Robotic midrange and rumbling, fast-paced sub adds to the character of the tune before a drop into ethereal, floaty bridge before the tune comes back in for round two. Watch out for these dropping July 15th.

Atlantic Connection – It’s Me, It’s You (Mikal Remix) [Atlantic Connection]

Mikal steps in on the remix for Atlantic Connection delivering a classic switcheroo – all signs on the intro point to a liquid roller before Mikal drops that dirty tech bass we know and love. Growling sub pairs nicely with the trancey synths and treated vocals of the original tune to create a tune with enough dirt for the heads and enough melody for, *ahem*, “da laydeez”. Or something.

Check it out below and grab it as part of the Love Architect Remixed LP alongside a range of mixes across the spectrum of bass music, out July 2nd.

Klute – Best Bits Not Over [Commercial Suicide]

Klute warms up for the impending release of his seventh full length with a cheeky sampler featuring a couple of seriously heavyweight rollers. On The A side Klute delivers an old school reese-led dancefloor beast, hopped up on hard snares and baying for blood. This one will be wrecking the floors at Sun & Bass this year methinks!

Over on the flip Invaderz give the VIP treatment to Take A Breath, giving the classic (and out of print) amen smasher a nice polish for 2013. Watch out for both of these dropping on vinyl and digital June 24th.

M:Pathy – The Grind / Meditate [Terabyte]

M:Pathy returns with his second single for Terabyte, delivering darkness in spades with a pair of leftfield half-steppers that carry a distinctly “Room 2” vibe. The Grind combines heavy hitting kicks and sub growl with some superb glitchy texture; heavily reverbed snares, static and a skittering percussion line all fade in and out of the mix to create some serious atmosphere.

Over on the flip Meditate goes in even harder, laying down some super compressed kick drums, a pitched down vocal and an absolutely rumbling sub line. Make no mistake, this is the sound of Birmingham; grimey, industrial and oppressive. Watch out for these dropping on June 24th.

Enei – Liberation EP [Critical]

Russian super-producer Enei returns with his first fresh cuts for Critical since the release of the excellent Machines LP. Opener Liberation sees him team up with Welsh rising star Emperor to craft a tidy stepper with some serious bass heft; warm, squelchy low end and that classic helter-skelter Enei percussion are both on show here to great effect.

Not content to merely tread familiar territory, track two immediately sees a switch of styles, with Enei teaming up with Chimpo to deliver a track that’s distinctly Dub Phizix-esque. Huge sub, half-time kicks and a distinctly trap influence all pervade the mix on Headtop.

Elsewhere on the EP Sam Wills provides some nice vocals on the dark but soulful roller Circles, and we get a couple of straight up techstep belters in the form of Mosquito (with its rather appropriately insect-like bass swoops) and the hard hitting percussion-led vibes of The Bonebreaker. Check out the whole EP below and look out for the release on June 24th.

Eastcolours – I Don’t Know Why (Dabs Remix) [Avantgarde]

Avantgarde Recordings returns with their third release which features some tasty beats from producers around the globe. First up Dabs gives the remix treatment to Eastcolours’ I Don’t Know Why, combining some tidy low end growl with a nice crisp break and some subtle vocal echoes.

For the second track US producers Quadrant and Iris team up to deliver a really nice slice of sci-fi influenced techstep, evoking favourable comparisons with old Virus Recordings material. Trippy, atmospheric pads echo in and out of the mix on the intro before the main break drops with some throbbing low end. The use of spoken samples in the mix is a nice touch too, adding to the cinematic quality of the track. Look out for these dropping June 10th.

Ed:it – Cargo Dub (Total Science Remix) [Rooted Recordings]

Rooted don’t seem to be in any hurry to get the beats out there but when they come to the table with a release it’s always top notch, and their third 12″ sticks to that theme. First up Total Science give their classic remix treatment to Ed:it’s Cargo Dub, adding emphasis to the melodic elements on the intro and bringing a dirty reese bassline to the table over some classic TS breaks.

Over on the flip, Mikal delivers a hard hitting break and some meaty bass stabs on Kick Back. Stopping short of the “full roll” of a traditional D&B break, instead we’re treated to a slightly more angular beat with tons of punch. Watch out for these dropping June 17th.

Kantyze – Fish Eye EP [M-Atome]

mat_web_016_300

French duo Kantyze bring us the latest release on M-Atome! Fish Eye kicks off the EP nicely with crisp beatwork, slightly old school chords and a nice squelchy bassline to give the tune plenty of texture. Dren takes things to a darker place with some nice haunting chime echoes and nice pallet of sounds being brought in and out of the mix to give a really spooky effect.

Over on the flip Factory Slum heads for stripped back roller territory, bringing things down to a level of sub, breaks and little else. Finally Marauder VIP rounds off the EP nicely with more sinister, echoing pads and growling bass set against the backdrop of a really characterful break, with weird and wonderful percussion skittering in and out of the main kick/snare line.

Check out the beats below and watch out for these ones dropping June 10th.
